Red cardamom, the name of Chinese medicine. It is the dried and mature fruit of Alpinia galanga, a plant of the Zingiberaceae family. Harvest the fruits in autumn when they turn red, remove impurities and dry them in the shade.
This product is oblong and spherical, slightly thin in the middle, 0.7-1.2cm long and 0.5-0.7cm in diameter. The surface is reddish brown or dark red, slightly wrinkled, with a yellowish-white tubular calyx at the top and fruit stalk marks at the base. The peel is thin and easily broken. Seed 6, oblate or triangular polyhedral, dark brown or reddish brown, covered with yellow-white membranous aril, and gray-white endosperm. It smells fragrant and tastes spicy.
