Snails often inhabit lakes, ponds, rice fields and slow-flowing rivers with warm winter and cool summer, soft subsoil and rich bait. The optimum water temperature for its growth is about 20~25℃, and it stops feeding when the water temperature reaches below 15℃ and above 30℃. When the temperature is lower than 10℃, it goes into hibernation, and when the water temperature returns to above 15℃, it goes out to eat again.

Artificial cultured snails can be raised in special ponds, natural paddy fields, swamps and ditches, and mixed with fish. However, aquaculture water is required to be non-toxic, harmless and pollution-free. When paddy fields are used for farming, pesticides and plows shall not be used, and iron wires or plastic nets shall be installed at the water inlet and outlet for control.
