Dendrobium can be cultivated in clay pots or plastic pots with porous walls. The substrate used is similar to other epiphytic orchids, and materials such as fern root, tree fern block, sphagnum, bark block, broken brick and charcoal are usually used. Before planting, the cultivation substrate should be cleaned and soaked in clear water for more than 1 day. For plants cultivated for more than 2 years, the root system has been covered in the pot, so it is necessary to change the pot in time. Pot changing is usually carried out after flowering in spring and before new buds grow. Dendrobium plants like high temperature and high humidity, and the wintering temperature of deciduous species can be as low as 10℃ or lower at night. Green species should not be lower than 15℃. In addition, Dendrobium is sensitive to the temperature difference between day and night, so it is best to keep the temperature difference of 10 ~ 15℃. Dendrobium is delicate from bud germination to new root formation. It needs enough water and is afraid of being too wet. As the temperature begins to rise at this time, the temperature should not be too high, too wet will cause decay. The season when Dendrobium grows vigorously is the rainy season, so attention should be paid to the unfavorable accumulation of water in the basin. If the weather is sunny and dry, water should be sprayed around the plants in time to maintain a high air humidity. 70% ~ 80% temperature should be maintained during the growing season. Deciduous trees can be properly aired and watered less in winter dormancy period, but the cultivation substrate should not be too dry. As long as the greenhouse temperature is high in winter, evergreen trees still need to keep enough water, and when the temperature is low, they can be watered less, but the cultivation substrate needs to be kept moist. Although the original species of Dendrobium plants are attached to the trunk or rocks in the forest, they also like some sunshine. If there is direct sunlight before 10 in the morning, it is best to block 70% ~ 80% of the sunlight during the rest time. The light is weak in the vigorous growth period in spring and summer, and strong in the dormant period in winter. When cultivated in greenhouse in the north, no shading or only shading 20% ~ 30% in winter.
