Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica states that "strengthening the middle energizer can tonify deficiency, eliminate cold and heat evil, tonify the middle energizer, strengthen muscles, and be smart after long service"; ((Rihuazi Materia Medica) said that it "helps the five internal organs, invigorates the bones and muscles, calms the nerves, and is mainly used to drain semen and forget"; Compendium of Materia Medica holds that yam can "benefit kidney qi, strengthen spleen and stomach, stop diarrhea, relieve paralysis and moisten fur". Modern science has proved that yam can significantly reduce the activity of enzymes that accelerate the aging of organisms. Bawei Dihuang Pill containing yam is mainly used for treating postpartum sweating. Baoyuan Qingjiang Decoction and Baoyuan Hanjiang Decoction can treat hematemesis and nosebleed; Cold drenching soup and ointment drenching soup can cure drenching insects. Yam can also cure tuberculosis, typhoid fever and gynecological diseases, which are beneficial to prolonging life.
