Team history

The New Orleans Pelicans were formerly known as the Charlotte Hornets, which was founded in 1988 and was originally organized as the city of Charlotte in a bid for NBA expansion. The Charlotte Hornets entered the NBA league in 1991, but due to the team's poor performance, the team was sold to New Orleans in 2002 and renamed the New Orleans Hornets.In 2013, the team changed its name to the current New Orleans Pelicans.
