The goby is the collective name for all species of gobies in the family Gobiidae, a group of small carnivorous fish. Each of them has a name that fits their respective characteristics, such as "pygmy goby" and "unusual goby", and are the largest family of fish, with more than 2,100 known species. They appear to be short in stature, only a few centimeters long, have two spine fins, and mostly inhabit tropical seawater. It is one of the world's smallest vertebrates.
