Miquan (i.e. Midong District) belongs to Urumqi region in Xinjiang.
Midong District, alias Miquan, belongs to the city of Urumqi in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region.It was established in August 2007 with the approval of the State Council by the merger of the former city of Miquan in the Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture and the former district of Dongshan in the city of Urumqi. The district has a total area of 3407.42 square kilometers, with 5 towns and 2 townships, 8 streets, 81 administrative villages and 75 communities, and at the end of 2019, the district had a total household population of 279,620.
Midong District is located in the hinterland of the Eurasian continent, far from the sea, belongs to the middle temperate continental arid climate. It is hot in summer and cold in winter, with low precipitation, vigorous evaporation, abundant light and heat, and large daily and annual changes in temperature difference.
History:
The Republic of China ten years (1921), set up County Zuo, named Qiande, still belongs to the Dihua County Department. Republic of China seventeen years (1928), the formal establishment of Qiande County, the county seat in Sandouba (now the town of Sandouba).
November 20, 1953, renamed "Miquan County", so many springs and rice production and named, the county government moved to the ancient pastoral (now ancient pastoral town). December 30, 1996, approved by the State Council, the abolition of the Miquan County, the establishment of Miquan City.
On June 30, 2007, Miquan City and Dongshan District of Urumqi City were abolished and Midong District of Urumqi City was established, with the administrative areas of the former Miquan City and Dongshan District of Urumqi City as the administrative area of Midong District.
On August 1, 2007, Midong District was officially listed.
