Su Shi was a famous writer, calligrapher, essayist, poet and lyricist of the Northern Song Dynasty.
Su Shi (1037-1101) was known as Zizhan (子瞻), and his name was Dongpo Jushi (东坡居士), and he was a native of Meishan, Meizhou (now in Sichuan). In the second year of Jiayou (1057), he and his younger brother, Chut, took the same entrance examination. He was awarded the title of Dali Critic and the title of Judge of Fengxiang Prefecture. In the second year of Xining (1069), his father returned to the court at the end of the mourning period, and he was appointed as a magistrate to report to the court. With Wang Anshi political disagreement, opposed to the implementation of the new law, self-appointed, as Hangzhou Tongjian. Moved to know Mizhou (now Shandong Zhucheng), moved to know Xuzhou.
Yuanfeng two years (1079), because of the "Wutai poetry case", authorized Huangzhou (present-day Huanggang, Hubei) deputy regiment trainer, Zhezong, after the high Queen Dowager, was resumed for the Chaofeng Lang Zhi Dengzhou (present-day Penglai, Shandong); in addition to the living room, moved to the Chinese book of the Sherman, moved the Hanlin scholar to know the system of enjoinment, to know the Department of Rites of the Tribute. Yuanyou four years (1089) out of Hangzhou, then changed to know Yingzhou, Yangzhou, Dingzhou.
Yuanyou eight years (1093) Zhezong pro-government, was far relegated to Huizhou (present-day Guangdong Huiyang), and then relegated to Danzhou (present-day Dan County, Hainan). After the reign of Emperor Huizong, he was amnestied and returned to the north, and died in Changzhou (now Jiangsu) in the first year of the reign of Emperor Jianzhong Jingguo (1101) at the age of sixty-five, and was buried in Jiacheng County, Ruzhou (now 郏县) in Henan Province. He was awarded the title of Master by Emperor Gaozong and was posthumously awarded the title of Wenzhong (文忠).

Su Shi, along with his father Su Xun (1009-1066) and his brother Su Zhe (1039-1112), were all famous for their literature, and were known as the "Three Su". Three of the Eight Greats of the Tang and Song dynasties. In the early years of Song Renzong's Jiading reign, Su Xun, Su Shi, Su Zhe and his father and son went to Tokyo (present-day Kaifeng City, Henan Province). Due to Ouyang Xiu's appreciation and praise, their writings soon became famous in the world. The scholars were eager to recite them, and for a while scholars competed with each other to emulate them.
Among the three Su, Su Xun and Su Zhe were mainly known for their prose; Su Xun's essays were written with great momentum, and his masterpieces included The Six Kingdoms, while Su Shi was not only very fruitful in his prose writing, but also had an important position in various fields, such as poetry, lyrics, calligraphy and painting.
Su Shi left behind some words such as "Song of Water", "Jiang Cheng Zi", "Raccoon River Sand" and "Butterfly Lovers", and prose such as "Former Red Cliff Fugue" and "Post Red Cliff Fugue". These are some of the literary works that gave a deep influence to the later generations.
