Maintain oral hygiene, daily brushing teeth can be gently brushed from the inside out on the surface of the tongue. Eat less acidic foods and drinks, use antibiotics correctly, quit smoking and drinking, and drink fewer drinks containing coloring.
Filamentous papillary staining of the tongue caused by food or medication is transient and can subside on its own, and is not considered a hairy tongue disease. It takes about 4 to 14 days for the tongue epithelium to metabolize. After discontinuing the substance that caused the discoloration, the staining can disappear after the epithelial surface layer of the stained area is shed.
