Plant morphology tripterygium wilfordii
Climbing vines, 2 ~ 3 meters high. Branchlets are reddish brown, angular, with oblong tubercles and rusty brown villi. Simple leaves alternate, sub-leathery, ovoid, elliptic or broadly ovoid, 5 ~10cm long and 3 ~ 5cm wide, with tapering apex, rounded or broadly wedge-shaped base, serrate edges, smooth upper surface, light green lower surface, slightly raised main veins and lateral veins on both sides of the leaves, and rusty brown pubescence on the veins: the petiole is about 5mm long and the surface is densely rusty brown. Flowers are small, white, terminal or axillary panicles with 5-lobed calyx; Petals 5, elliptic; Stamens 5, filaments wide near the base, inserted at the edge of cup-shaped disk; Ovary superior, trigonous, short style, head-shaped stigma. Samara, membranous, round or slightly truncated at the apex, round at the base, about 1.5 cm long, about 1 cm wide, yellow-brown, 3-sided, and usually with seeds 1 grain in the center.
