Beijing, a city in the north of China, is the capital of People's Republic of China (PRC). Beijing borders Hebei Province to the north, west and south, and a small part of it borders Tianjin to the east.

In terms of population, Beijing is the second largest city in China, next to Shanghai. It is a major transportation hub, with dozens of railways, highways and expressways coming in and out from all directions. It is also the focus of many international flights to China. Beijing is regarded as the political, educational and cultural center of China, while Shanghai and Hongkong dominate the economic field.

Beijing is one of the four ancient capitals in China. It will also host the 2008 Summer Olympics.
