Legend has it that at the end of Han Dynasty, there was a calligrapher Zhang Zhi in Hanzhong area, whose brushwork was so skillful that he was known as "the first brush in Hanzhong". One day, when Zhang Zhi was writing, the brush in his hand suddenly broke, and he had to use the rest to continue writing. However, he found that the broken brush became more flexible, and his handwriting was extraordinarily vivid and powerful.
From then on, Zhang Zhi often used this truncated brush to write, and gradually, his writing style was spread in Hanzhong area, which was called "immortal hair".
Later, during the Tang Dynasty, Yan Zhenqing, a master calligrapher of the Tang Dynasty, studied and developed Xianhao, making it a traditional brush stroke.
Today, Hanzhong Xianhao is still a favorite writing method among calligraphy enthusiasts and is regarded as an important part of traditional Chinese culture.
