A prefecture-level city under the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in China.

Erdos City is located in the southwest of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, located in the hinterland of the Ordos Plateau. It is bordered by Jin, Shaanxi and Ningxia to the east, south and west, and the steppe steel city of Baotou as well as the capital of the autonomous region, Hohhot, across the river to the north and northeast. It is about 400 kilometers long from east to west and 340 kilometers wide from north to south, with a total area of 86,752 square kilometers

The History of Ordos Area

In the sixth year of Shunzhi of the Qing Dynasty (1649), the Qing Dynasty divided the Mongol Ordos Tribe into the following groups: the middle banner of the left flank of the Ordos (the former County Wangqi), the front banner of the left flank of the Ordos (the present Jungarqi), and the front banner of the left flank of the Ordos. Left Wing Front Banner (now Jungar Banner), Ordos Left Wing Back Banner (now Dalat Banner), Ordos Right Wing Middle Banner (now Ertok Banner), Ordos Right Wing Front Banner (now Uttarakhand Banner), and Ordos Right Wing Back Banner (now Hangjin Banner); and later on, the Ordos Right Wing Front Unbanner was added (the former Zazhark Banner, which was then merged with the County King's Banner to become the present-day YijinhuoLuo Banner).

Republic of China thirty years (1941) in March, the Yimeng Work Committee evacuated Taolimin; in June, Uttarakhand Banner Work Committee evacuated Uralin; in September, Dalate Banner set up 91 bao, 312 a; Dongsheng County set up 30 bao, 289 a; Taolimin set up 28 bao, 148 a; in November, Ordos Banner Chenggchuan set up the anti-Japanese democratic regime.

July 1953, Ikezhaomeng (now Ordos City) changed the administrative village people's government of the grass-roots regime to the township people's government.

In 1956, 37 of the 69 districts in Yikzhaomeng (now Ordos City) were abolished and 26 new soums were built.

In October 1958, the then 50 townships, 23 soums and 5 township-level towns were changed into people's communes, at which time Yimeng (i.e., today's Ordos) *** under the jurisdiction of the 7 banners, 1 county, 78 people's communes, 444 production brigades (of which there are 100 herding brigades), 2,173 production brigades (of which there are 468 herding production brigades).

In 1984, Yimeng (now Ordos) changed the people's communes into townships and soums, and the brigades into villages and gachas.
