Background information on the National Youth Campus Youth Fitness Exercise Competition

In order to actively promote the development of sunshine sports for hundreds of millions of students nationwide, and to comprehensively promote quality education, the Department of Physical Education, Health and Art Education of the Ministry of Education organized experts to prepare a series of "Youth Fitness Exercise on Campus" teaching materials suitable for young people aged between 16-22 in April 2006, which includes two forms of fitness exercises and cheerleading exercises. The content includes two forms of gymnastics and cheerleading, each of which has been designed with basic routines and competitive routines, and has undergone strict physiological, psychological and sociological scientific tests to ensure that the majority of students of the appropriate age will enjoy and be able to learn them. The teaching materials are presented through DVDs, wall charts and teacher's guide books. For each routine, three modules are designed: decomposition movements, basic team movements and group performance movements with changes in formations, and the wall charts are accompanied by explanations for each movement to facilitate teaching and learning.

In order to popularize the series of campus youth fitness exercise to schools as soon as possible, KFC National Youth Campus Youth Fitness Exercise Competition came into being. 2006 Ministry of Education, Physical Education, Health and Arts Education Department, China Care for the Next Generation Working Committee Health Sports Development Center, Yum Brands KFC support KFC National Youth Campus Youth Fitness Exercise Competition was formally launched. This series of campus youth fitness exercises*** includes four sets of exercises, two basic sets of fitness exercises, "Youth Charm" and "Miracle Creation", and two basic sets of cheerleading exercises, "Spirited" and "Unlimited Vitality". Since the pilot program was launched in Beijing, Shanghai and Nanjing in 2006, it has gained good results and experience, and continued to be promoted in Tianjin, Shenyang, Jinan, Qingdao, Wuhan and Hangzhou in 2007, and further promoted to Urumqi, Zhengzhou, Wenzhou, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Fuzhou, Wuxi, Suzhou and Dalian in 2008, and expanded to six new cities, namely Changsha, Lanzhou, Nanchang, Shenzhen, Hefei and Kunming, in 2010. In 2010, we added six new cities, Changsha, Lanzhou, Nanchang, Shenzhen, Hefei and Kunming, and now the number of cities promoted nationwide has reached 26.
