Hehe, I just taught myself IELTS, and my grades have just come down to 6.5, listening 6.5, reading 6.5, writing 6, and speaking 7.5.
Generally speaking, I'm not self-taught. I basically didn't learn IELTS, and I did two complete sets of questions as soon as I got there. However, I simply read some necessary materials.
First of all, I will reduce the content of the IELTS test for you, that is, I will answer your 2
1. Listening
Listening of IELTS is always the first part of the whole test, which is usually a monologue or a dialogue between two or more people. * * * has 4 units with 38 to 42 questions, and the topics in the general training class and the academic listening class are exactly the same.
the difficulty of the four units is increasing in turn. The first two units are mainly some scenes about social status and interpersonal relationships in daily life, such as conversations about accommodation or shopping. The latter two units are some typical scenes that students encounter in the learning process, such as discussions with tutors or administrators and brief course introductions, or discussions on educational, academic and global topics, which have practical and common sense characteristics.
Common listening questions include multiple-choice questions (similar to TOEFL's multiple-choice questions, with alternative options), short-answer questions, fill-in-the-blank questions, chart questions, and matching questions (such as matching the given pictures with the listening content).
2. Reading
The general training and academic reading papers in the IELTS are completely different.
General training articles basically come from advertisements, newspapers, brochures, timetables, magazines and other highly practical text carriers. The purpose of test questions is to see whether candidates can acquire, understand and process the most basic survival information in reading, so the test questions are mainly to assess candidates' overall understanding ability, ability to locate details in the text and ability to compare details in the text. There are various types of questions, such as matching questions, short answers, completing sentences, choosing paragraph titles, chart questions and so on. The length and genre of the article are not as fixed as TOEFL reading, but the content is something that candidates must face in their foreign life. Because domestic English learning focuses on reading some academic articles, candidates will face an embarrassment when they first contact IELTS, that is, the article is not long and the content is simple, but they can't find the information points they need to answer questions.
First of all, the academic reading articles far exceed the TOEFL test in length. There are only three articles in the whole reading paper, ranging from 711 words to 1,511 words in length. You should finish reading and answer 38 to 42 questions within a limited time of 61 minutes. The focus of the test is to examine the candidates' grasp of the basic structure of the articles and some important information. Its questions are as diverse as the IELTS test for general training.
3. Writing
Writing is an important way to test language ability. At present, most American colleges and universities require applicants to provide writing scores, which is an important basis for admission.
There are also some differences between the general training and academic writing parts of the IELTS test. The test time is 1 hour, and candidates are required to complete two articles, the first one is required to be 151 words, and the second one is required to be 251 words. The first test of general training requires candidates to write a letter according to the setting of the topic, which is mostly related to daily life, such as complaining, job hunting, asking about the situation and so on. The first question in the academic category requires candidates to accurately describe the information and trends expressed in the charts provided by the test paper within 21 minutes. The second topic of general training class and academic class has the same style, which requires candidates to write an argumentative essay on a certain point of view or phenomenon. The topics are mostly popular topics, so that candidates have something to say.
4. Oral English
There is a certain pattern in the oral interview of IELTS, and the score is fair and reliable. The oral part is divided into four stages. In the first stage, the examiner will ask some simple basic questions to ease the tension of the candidates. After the transition to the second stage, the examiner will ask the candidates to elaborate on a certain problem or describe a certain process. Then in the third stage, the examiner will provide the examinee with a cue card (role-playing card), and two people will play roles respectively, and the examinee will ask the examiner questions according to the contents of the card. This stage often makes many candidates feel difficult to grasp. In the last stage, the examiner will invite candidates to talk about future plans and plans. The whole conversation tends to be life-oriented and colloquial, which is more relaxed.

/ It was made by an examiner. It is very useful ~! ! (It's all in English, but I can understand it ~)
Reading, it is said that it is very important to buy parallel reading method. I bought it. You can buy one and have a look. It is the most important skill book on the market. But to put it bluntly, it's the key. You can buy parallel reading or global IELTS reading. It's the same thing. I just didn't pay attention to it when I bought it, and I bought it too much. If you have enough time and want to improve your reading ability and greatly improve your reading score, you can buy the real classics (1, 2, 3) or the IELTS reading source, which is the reading material that is similar to the real questions. Of course, I didn't read it. If I did, it wouldn't be only 6.5. It was said that it would be about 1 points higher. Of course, if you don't have time, just buy a parallel reading method, systematically understand IELTS reading, and then do the Cambridge IELTS simulation problem.
