Tongling Gorge was developed by Ling Shuming, Huang Fengzheng, Qin Hailong and Zeng Dequan of Jingxi Chamber of Commerce in April, 1998. There is a little-known secret hidden in the valley mouth of Tongling Grand Canyon. These stone walls are the ruins left by the ancients. There is a hole about 61 meters deep behind the stone walls. According to folk word of mouth, this is a camp of Zhuang leader Nong Zhigao in the Northern Song Dynasty. The hole in the camp is called the hidden gold hole.
It is said that after being defeated by Di Qing in Kunlun Pass, Nong Zhigao retreated back with countless treasures of gold and silver, and eighteen loads of gold were hidden in this cave, so it was called the hidden gold cave.
