Evolution of Place Names in Yueyang City
Yueyang has a long history. In the Neolithic Age, people rested here. During the Xia and Shang Dynasties, Jingzhou was the land of three seedlings. The Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period belonged to Chu State. In the 10th year of Friday (505 BC), Simi City was built here, which was the beginning of the construction of China City. Qin merged with the six countries, and most of Yueyang City belonged to Luoxian County and Changsha County. During the Western Han Dynasty, it belonged to Xiajun, Changsha. In the 15th year of Jian 'an (AD 2 10), Sun Quan of Soochow established Hanchang County in Jinpu County, southeast of Pingjiang County, which was the beginning of Yueyang City. During the Three Kingdoms period, Wu Dong sent general Lu Su of Hengjiang to stay here with 10,000 people to build Baqiu Dige City. In the first year of Taikang (280), Emperor Wu of Jin established Baling County. In the first year of Yuankang in Hui Di (AD 29 1), Baling County was established. The county seat is located in Baling City, and Yueyang City has been the county seat ever since. In the 10th year of Yuanjia in the Southern Song Dynasty (AD 439), Baling County was established. During the reign of Emperor Wendi of Sui Dynasty, counties were streamlined, Baling county was abolished and Bazhou was built. In the 11th year of Emperor Kai (AD 59 1), Bazhou was changed to Yuezhou. In 1276, Yuezhou was changed to Yuezhou Road. 1369, Yuezhou Road was changed to Yuezhou Prefecture. 1899, the Qing government opened Yuezhou as a trading port. In the second year of the Republic of China (AD 19 13), Baling County was changed to Yueyang County.
