The University of Birmingham has over 30 food outlets on campus***, some of which are branded chains. These are located in the main buildings and event venues on campus, making it very convenient for students to eat close to home. Some of the more centralized locations are The Hub, University Center, and Staff House, which are known as the hubs of the campus food court. Here's a quick look at what's on offer at the University of Birmingham.
The Hub at the Vale Village
The Vale Village is the largest halls of residence at the University of Birmingham, and at the heart of the Vale Village is the fully functioning The Hub, which houses two large food and drink outlets. The Hub is the largest of the University of Birmingham's halls of residence, and is home to two of the larger dining outlets.
◆ Infusion Restaurant: This cafeteria can accommodate up to 1,000 students at a time, and on weekend evenings it is transformed into a clubhouse for students to gather and have fun, as well as hosting large-scale conferences. The cafeteria offers a cozy and comfortable environment with a wide variety of food. The cafeteria is open from Monday to Friday from 16:30 to 20:00 and from 10:00 to 15:00 on weekends.
◆ The Melt: The Melt is a great place to relax and unwind, with a slightly luxurious interior design, clean wooden floors, comfortable soft sofas, and beautiful chandeliers, so that every student who comes here will love it. The Melt offers breakfast, lunch and hot and cold drinks, with breakfast costing just £3.70 with six items and lunch options such as panini?s, baguettes, sandwiches, salads and juices. It's open from 8:00-17:00 Monday to Friday, and an hour earlier at weekends.
University Centre
The University Center is a popular place for students to hang out, and the food court on the first floor is always bustling with activity at mealtimes. It's usually open from 8:00 to 17:00, except for Costa Coffee, which is open until 8:00pm.
◆ Go Central: This restaurant serves fresh food in three different themes, with Go Italia serving Italian pizza and pasta, Go Britannia serving traditional British food such as chicken, fish, steak, chips and pies, and Go Asia serving Indian and Asian cuisine.
◆ Costa Coffee: An espresso franchise with a wide range of coffee flavors, cakes, sandwiches, pies and snacks for sale, Costa Coffee has a spacious environment with Wi-Fi and computers available for eaters to use free of charge, and the service is spot on.
◆ Cafe Go: Sandwiches, deli items, salads, soups, sweets, snacks, coffee and hot and cold drinks.
◆ Go Mex: Sells tacos, chicken tacos, grilled meats and nachos, among other specialties.
Staff house
The University of Birmingham Staff House has four restaurants, all of which are open to all students and staff.
◆ the Astor Restaurant& The Noble Room: on the third floor of Staff House there are two relatively large restaurants, both of which are open for lunch and dinner only. These two restaurants are elegantly decorated, with both small private rooms and halls, and are particularly suitable for more formal gatherings. The food on offer includes a wide range of appetizers, hot and cold dishes, traditional British dishes, snacks and salads.
◆ Bratby Bar: This bar is on the first floor of the Staff House, where you can meet your friends and relax with a drink in your spare time. The bar sells light meals from 12:00-14:00, and is also a great place for private parties.
◆ Cafe Aroma: A great place to relax, serving hot coffee, tea, cakes and sandwiches.
Other popular places to eat
In addition to the above three centralized places to eat, there are more than 20 other places to eat on campus, mainly cafes, of which the following three are the most popular among students:
◆ Food Court: This food court serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a variety of traditional and healthy dishes, such as casseroles. Traditional healthy dishes such as casseroles, baked potatoes, pies, lasagna, etc. There are also options for halal, salads, soups, pastries, coffee and cold drinks. You can sit in the store and savor them slowly or ask for them to be packed up and taken away. Meal Plan
The University of Birmingham offers a meal plan for students staying in on-campus halls of residence, with the Accommodation Department topping up your meal card with £50 per week, of which £47.06 is paid by the student The total cost of the meal is included in the accommodation fee and students do not have to pay extra. The cost of the meal plan is not cumulative, and each week the cost of the week's meals must be spent or the following week is void, so students need to plan their weekly meal costs wisely. The meal plan is available at all on-campus food outlets except Costcutter and the University bars.
