At present, the industries that don't need to work overtime or work overtime less in China are not limited to civil servants. It also includes:
1. Education industry. Especially in the teaching process, teachers have fixed working hours and seldom work overtime. Basically, you can have a rest after class.
2. Health care industry. Especially in hospitals in second-and third-tier cities, except for special circumstances, most medical staff have stable working hours and less overtime.
3. Accounting industry. Accounting and auditing work has strong stability and the workload is evenly distributed, so it is generally less overtime, especially when it is far from the annual inspection and financial report.
4. technology research and development. Software development, electronic technology research and development, etc., especially in the early and late stages of project development, work is easier and overtime opportunities are less.
5. Public undertakings. Working hours such as bus operation, environmental cleaning and greening are relatively fixed, and generally there is less overtime.
6. Consulting and service industry. Psychological counselors, personal trainers, domestic service personnel, etc., except for customer needs, generally have stable working hours and do not need to work overtime too often.
7. Cultural and artistic industries: writers, painters, musicians, actors, etc. Working hours in the cultural and artistic industries are relatively free, and creation requires time and space, so overtime is relatively rare.
8. Internet industry: some technical posts, such as front-end development engineer, back-end development engineer, operation and maintenance engineer, etc. The pace of work in the Internet industry is relatively fast, but there are also some positions that need to be completed according to the project schedule and work schedule, so overtime is relatively rare.
Of course, apart from civil servants, there are few industries that really hardly need to work overtime. Due to workload problems or seasonal changes, it is inevitable that most industries will have certain overtime demand. However, in comparison, the frequency of overtime work in education, medical care, accounting, R&D and public services is still low, which is more suitable for people who pursue work-life balance.
I have the following views on overtime:
1. Proper overtime is understandable, but it is unfavorable to work overtime too frequently and for a long time. Appropriate overtime can increase work efficiency and output and meet workload demand. However, long-term excessive overtime will lead to physical and mental fatigue, affect the quality of work, and endanger health.
2. Overtime should be based on voluntariness and remuneration. When working overtime, we should ensure the voluntary participation and reasonable remuneration of employees. The practice of compulsory unpaid overtime is inhuman and illegal.
3. Overtime should be appropriate and efficient. If overtime hours are long but work progress is slow, then overtime is of little significance. High-intensity and efficient working conditions should be the principle of overtime.
4. The management should arrange the workload reasonably. Frequent overtime is often caused by unreasonable workload distribution. Management should arrange work tasks and progress as reasonably as possible according to the actual situation. Avoid imposing excessive workload on employees for a long time.
5. Corporate culture is also very important. The reason why some enterprises work overtime all the year round is also related to corporate culture. If you create a corporate culture of not working overtime, then the motivation for employees to work overtime comes from this. This is an incorrect and harmful corporate culture.
Therefore, my opinion is that moderate overtime is understandable and beneficial to the completion of the work, but it must be on the premise that employees are voluntary, efficient and reasonably remunerated; Frequent and long-term overtime work is unfavorable. Management should allocate workload reasonably, and enterprises should also establish correct work and corporate culture. Overtime itself is not a problem, but how to manage and guide it.
Overtime is a complex social phenomenon, which needs to be considered by various factors. Only after fully understanding and balancing all relevant factors can we find the best ways and means in management and improvement. This requires further social progress and efforts.
