Liangyuan District is a municipal district of Shangqiu City, Henan Province, located in the northern part of the center of Shangqiu City, on the south bank of the old course of the Yellow River, at the junction of the provinces of Henan and Shandong, adjacent to Suiyang District in the south, relying on the new district of Shangqiu and Yucheng County in the east, connecting Minquan and Ningling counties in the west, and looking north to the city of Heze in Shandong Province. As of 2017, the district has 16 streets (towns and townships) under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 542 square kilometers and a total population of 496,000 (all excluding Shangqiu New District).
Liangyuan District is the economic, cultural, transportation and information center of Shangqiu City, and a regional trade and logistics center in the junction area of four provinces of Henan, Shandong, Suzhou and Anhui. The Longhai Railway, Beijing-Kowloon Railway, Zheng-Xu High-speed Railway, Shang-Hangzhou High-speed Railway, Beijing-Kowloon High-speed Railway, Lianhuo High-speed Railway, Jiguang High-speed Railway, National Highway 105, National Highway 310 and other national transportation trunk roads run through the whole area, and Shangqiu Guantang Airport in the area will be opened soon.
Liangyuan District is the birthplace of Zhuang Zi, a master of Taoist literature and philosophy, and is named after the Liang Garden built by Liu Wu, the Liang Xiao Wang of the Liang Kingdom in the Western Han Dynasty. Liangyuan District is the birthplace of Han-Liang culture and Han Fu. Sima Xiangru dominated Liangyuan literature in Liangyuan District, and Li Bai left his classic masterpiece "Liangyuan Yin" in Liangyuan District. In the district, there are Song, Dai, Niu and other nine surnames ancestral mausoleum Sanlingtai, Zhuangzi's hometown Mengxian old city, the Buddhist shrine Qingliang Temple, Guanyin Temple, as well as Chairman Mao's inspection of the Huanglou Memorial Museum, Hu Jintao's inspection of the double eight town of Strawberry Park, the People's Park of Shangqiu, the Yellow River Old Road National Forest Park and other scenic attractions.
