Requirements for Olympic Volunteers:

Language Proficiency :

This one is a must. Each Summer and Winter Olympics rotates countries. Olympic volunteers are people from all over the world, and when Eddie was in Brazil, the group included people from Sweden, the United States, France, China, and Brazil. Volunteers do not need to master the language of the host country, but can communicate in English at an intermediate level;

Volunteers communicate with each other in English. Below is a group photo of Eddie's group during his time in Brazil; if you can't communicate in English, you're probably going to be benched for the entire duration of your service.

For volunteers in the translation team, there is a need to master some specific languages. This is something that each applicant can apply for, depending on his or her specialty. (In fact, for those in the language and etiquette groups, there's an added benefit of getting free passes to all venues!)

Guarantee of time:

Volunteers serve for periods ranging from 2 to 4 weeks. So make sure you have enough time to serve. In the case of Brazil, Eddie didn't realize that he was serving in the first half of early August until he received his final position notice in May. So with the round-trip plane time it's going to be about 20 days.

For South Korea, the flight distance is just fine, but it requires being in South Korea for almost the entire month of February. So be sure to allow for a full month when you apply. Just look at the specific work schedule at that time and then allocate your time.

So for students, volunteering for the Olympics is actually a great experience. Not only can you open your eyes and enrich your experience, but you are also representing China to show the style of the young generation. I remember that before the Beijing Olympics, many school seniors stayed in school in August to serve the Olympic Games. From July is to stay in school to prepare, no wonder the Beijing Olympics is an unparalleled Olympic Games.

Inclusive mindset, acceptance of different cultures:

The Olympics is a global event. In the host countries, apart from the enthusiastic and excited local people, tourists, spectators and volunteers from various countries also come to feel the passion of the Olympics.

Here, regardless of nationality, regardless of race, regardless of strife, we are one big family. Everyone comes here with goodwill and peace. I remember watching the broadcast of the 2000 Sydney Olympics, where South and North Korean athletes once again appeared together on the international sports stage. I look forward to seeing a smiling face of peace at the Olympics.
