On February 3, 2002, at the132nd General Meeting of the Bureau of International Expositions held in Monte Carlo, Morocco, the bid for the Shanghai World Expo was successful. After four rounds of fierce battles, Shanghai won the right to host the 20 10 World Expo with 54 votes.

Bidding process

Five candidate cities were finally identified for this World Expo, and the host city was decided by the vote at the132nd General Assembly of the Bureau of International Expositions held in Monte Carlo, Morocco.

Before the voting, Mexico (Cretaro), Russia (Moscow), South Korea (Lishui), Poland (Wafer, Froze) and China (Shanghai) made bidding statements.

After the introduction, representatives from 89 member countries of the Bureau of International Exhibitions voted by secret ballot. According to the regulations, if a city gets two-thirds of the votes in the first round of voting, it will be elected in one fell swoop, otherwise the city with the least votes will be eliminated in the first round of voting and enter the second round of voting. And so on, until there are only two candidate cities, the person who gets the majority of votes will get the right to host the 20 10 World Expo.

The competition among the bidding countries is fierce, and four rounds of voting have been held:

1. In the first round of voting, China won the first place with 36 votes, but did not get two thirds of the votes. South Korea 28 votes, Russia 12 votes, Mexico 6 votes, Poland was eliminated.

2. In the second round of voting, China had 38 votes, South Korea had 34 votes, Russia 10 votes, and Mexico was eliminated.

3. In the third round of voting, China had 44 votes, South Korea had 32 votes, and Russia 12 votes were eliminated.

4. In the last round of voting, China won with 54 votes. Become the host city of the 20 10 World Expo.
