Hutubi County is located in the north-central part of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, with geographic coordinates between 86°5′-87°8′ east longitude and 43°7′-45°20′ north latitude. It borders with Hejing County of Bayin'guoleng Mongol Autonomous Prefecture by the Tianshan Watershed in the south, with Hebukeser County of Tacheng Region by the center of the Gurbantunggut Desert in the north, with Changji City in the east, and with Manas County in the west. The county is 258 kilometers long from north to south and 52 kilometers wide from east to west at maximum, with a total area of 9721.6 square kilometers.
In 2012, Hutubi County realized total retail sales of consumer goods of 1.83 billion yuan for the year, an increase of 17% over 2011.
