Vietnam is located south of the Tropic of Cancer, with high temperatures and rainy weather, and a tropical monsoon climate. The average annual temperature is around 24°C, and the average annual rainfall is 1,500 to 2,000 mm. The north is divided into four seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter; the south has two distinct seasons: rain and drought. In most areas, the rainy season is from May to October, and the dry season is from November to April of the following year.
Vietnam's climate is tropical, with heavy rainfall and high humidity throughout the year. The northern part is affected by China's land climate and therefore has a more or less continental climate. The East China Sea has a huge impact on the tropical monsoon humid climate on land. The humid tropical monsoon climate has different impacts on Vietnam's territory, so different regions in Vietnam have different climate characteristics. Vietnam's climate changes with the seasons, north and south, and east and west. Due to the strong influence of the northeast monsoon, Vietnam's average annual temperature is lower than that of other countries at the same latitude in Asia.
Vietnam’s climate can be divided into two distinct climate regions.
(1) North - The provinces north of Haiyun Mountain (HAI VAN) are located in a tropical monsoon climate with obvious four seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter. They are affected by the northeasterly winds from the Asian land and Southeast wind influence and high humidity.
(2) South - The provinces south of Haiyun Mountain are less affected by the monsoon, so their tropical climate is relatively mild, with high temperatures all year round and divided into two seasons: dry season and rainy season.
At the same time, due to different topographic structures, there are other different microclimate areas in Vietnam, and some places have temperate climates (such as Sabah (SA PA) in Lao Cai Province, Da Le (DA LAT) in Lam Dong Province, Some places have a continental climate (such as Laizhou Province and Son La Province).
