Kashgar University was formerly known as Kashgar Teachers College. 1962 in the first half of the year, the Party committee and people's government of the autonomous region adjusted the universities in the autonomous region and decided to merge the former Xinjiang Normal University and Xinjiang University, and transferred some teaching staff, books, materials, instruments and equipment from them to establish Kashgar Normal University in Xinjiang.

1In August, 978, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was upgraded to an undergraduate college, renamed Kashgar Teachers College, and began to undertake the task of training graduate students.

In June, 2003, after being examined by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, the college obtained the qualification of authorized unit for master's degree and began to undertake the task of cultivating master's degree students. From its founding to the end of 1979, the college was the only normal college among the five universities in Xinjiang.

20 12 in may, the Kashgar prefectural party Committee office and administrative office jointly issued the "notice on the establishment of a leading group for the preparation of Kashgar university", marking the official start of the preparation of Kashgar university.

On April 29th, 20 15, the Ministry of Education agreed to change the name of Kashgar Teachers College to Kashgar University.

20 15 On May 29th, the opening ceremony of Kashgar University was held in the Science Museum of Kashgar Teachers College, and Kashgar Teachers College was officially renamed Kashgar University.
