What does the elm tree look like?
Elm is tall, with a height of about 25 meters, tall and straight, broad crown, smooth bark of young trees, grayish brown or light gray, and dark gray bark of big trees; Branchlets glabrous or hairy, without swollen cork layer and raised cork wings; Winter buds are nearly spherical or ovoid.

When young, the back of leaves is pubescent, then becomes glabrous or has tufted hairs in the axils of some veins, and the petiole surface is pubescent. The leaves of flowers bloom first and cluster in the axils of branches. Elaeagnus mollis is thin and oval, and its flowering and fruiting period is from March to June (later in Northeast China). Often planted on the roadside, it has shading effect and strong air purification effect.

Growth habit

Elm is a deciduous tree, which is often planted on both sides of the road and has a good shading effect. Born on slopes, valleys, rivers, hills and sand mountains below the altitude of1000-2500m.

Positive tree species are light-loving, drought-tolerant, cold-tolerant, barren-tolerant and adaptable. Developed root system, strong wind resistance and soil conservation. Fast growth and long life. Resistant to dry and cold climate and moderate salinity, but not to water and humidity (resistant to rainy season waterlogging). It has anti-pollution and strong dust retention ability for leaves.

It grows well in alluvial soil and the Loess Plateau with deep, fertile soil and good drainage. It can be used as afforestation or "four-sided" greening tree species in northwest desert, North China and Huaibei plain, hills and northeast barren hills, sandy land and coastal saline-alkali land.

The ornamental value is high, the leaves are green and compact, the crown is huge, and people often enjoy the cool under the elm trees in summer. In addition, elm has a strong air purification effect, which can absorb toxic substances in the air and improve air quality.
