Cinnabar occurs in limestone, slate and sandstone. The name of cinnabar comes directly from its place of origin-Chenzhou (now Yuanling, Hunan), where cinnabar was first discovered in China. Tongren in Guizhou, Chenxi in Hunan, Yuanling and Mayang are the main producing areas of cinnabar. In addition, Sichuan, Guangxi, Shaanxi, Gansu and other places are also produced. Among them, there are 50 proven cinnabar producing areas in Guizhou Province, with reserves exceeding 200,000 tons.
Identification method of cinnabar authenticity
You can identify the authenticity of cinnabar by tapping. After the real cinnabar is broken, the inside and outside colors are the same red, and the cinnabar at the opening will turn white at high temperature, while the fake cinnabar often has obvious black spots or blocks.
In addition, cinnabar can also be identified by fire. The real cinnabar will not burn completely after being ignited, and it will still maintain its original shape after the flame is extinguished. Plastic imitation cinnabar will melt after burning, and at the same time it will emit a pungent smell.
