I. Huayuanshan Catholic Church

The church is located at the south foot of Huayuan Mountain in Wuchang. The main patrons of the church are Santa Maria, St Joseph and Jesus, so its Christian name is Sagrada Familia. This church is a basilica-style building in Roman style, which was designed by Italian Bishop Jiang De at that time. Built in 1889, the cost is about 10000 taels of silver.

The hall, facing south, is magnificent, with brick and wood structure and excellent workmanship. In the center of the rose window on its front, there is a western-style sundial to observe the shadow of the sun. This antique timer on the surface of foreign churches is very rare at home and abroad.

The sculpture of potted olive branch on the outer wall also attracted people's attention. It is said that it was packed in pure gold.

Its hall is 36 meters long and 18 meters wide. It does not adopt the common style of three corridors, and the space is spacious and barrier-free, which can accommodate thousands of people for mass at the same time. The newly-built five circular altars make the rectangular tone in the hall varied. In particular, the decorative patterns of the 20-meter-high ceiling caisson are all inlaid with gold. This solemn, luxurious and beautiful church is at least an isolated case in Hubei Province.

Second, Baiquan Catholic Church

Bai Quan Saint Anthony Monastery in Dongxihu Lake was the first religious education institution founded by Catholic Italian missionaries in Wuhan in 1842, but it was closed by the Qing government soon. 1903, the hospital reopened until 1952. According to the local elders, Liu Xinsheng, the historical land king of Wuhan, studied here in his early years.

The Catholic church in the courtyard is also presided over by three members of the Jesus family. Therefore, it is called the sacred family chapel in the church. It turns out that there is an old Catholic church in the hospital, but it was used for it in the early years. This holy chapel, which is still engaged in religious activities, was built in 1903, with a Latin cross and a single-story brick-wood structure. It is an Italian baroque architectural style and has been well preserved so far. Its interior is divided into three arcades with Roman columns, which are concise, lively, compact and practical.

At present, there are willows on the small riverbank in the east, a garden cemetery in the west, two monastery buildings in a straight line in the south, and farmhouse smoke in the north. Quiet environment and unique scenery make it a good place for people in downtown areas to spend their holidays.

Third, the Catholic Church in Shanghai Road.

This hall is a classic designed by Italian missionary Yu Zuobin. Built in 1876, it is of Romanesque basilica architectural style. The plane layout is Latin cross, with two layers of brick and wood structure, with a total length of 40 meters and a width of 26 meters. The middle hall of the three arcades in the hall is14m wide. There are a pair of circular bell towers on the left and right sides of the hall, but unfortunately one of them was blown up in World War II.

This church is the largest existing Catholic church in Wuhan, with five altars, which can accommodate 1000 people for mass at the same time. Because Yue Se, the adoptive father of Jesus, is the patron of this church, it is called St. Joseph's Church in the church.

1938 65438+ 10/8 In the name of the Catholic Church, a memorial service was held in this hall to mourn the soldiers and civilians who died in the Anti-Japanese War. Shao Lizi and Wu Guozhen, officials of the National Government, and celebrities such as Chiang Kai-shek, Wang Jingwei and Yan Xishan also sent representatives to attend the ceremony. Zhu De and Peng, who were in China at that time, presented the pennants of "benevolence" and "death" respectively.

4. County Main Street Catholic Church

This cathedral was built late and is a relic of the Catholic Saint Laurent Pang Hui. Pang Hui, a Catholic saint Laurent, 19 19 was founded in Ireland, aiming at missionary work and charity. Missionaries came to Hanyang in 1920, and established a powerful parish, making Hanyang the headquarters of missionaries in China.

The existing Catholic Church in Xianzheng Street, built in 1936, is an Irish-style basilica-style building with a single-story brick-wood structure, a pair of square bell towers on the facade and a round window of mountain flowers at the main entrance, which is beautifully designed. There are three corridors and high arches in the hall, with smooth lines and clean atmosphere, which can accommodate more than 500 people for mass at the same time. The strangest thing is that in the center of the only altar in the church, there is a statue of the patron saint of the church, which makes this church particularly different from other churches. Therefore, this church is called St. Gao Panglong Hall in teaching.

Behind the church are buildings such as Notre Dame Hill and Bishop's Mansion. It is the most beautiful and largest church in Hanyang at present.

Verb (abbreviation of verb) Hankou Orthodox Church

The church was built in 1885, with a single-story masonry structure and an area of about 220 square meters. It is the only Russian Orthodox Church in Wuhan. Because the church is also guaranteed by its owner, it is called Alexander Neve Hall.

The church has a regular cross-shaped plane layout, the bottom wall consists of several perspective arches, and the upper plane is a hexagonal perspective arch, which echoes the spire of the six slopes and is lively and stretched. Its pilaster and finely carved feet are beautiful and generous. It is a Russian church with Byzantine architectural style and has high architectural artistic value.

After the Opium War, the Orthodox Church began to spread to Wuhan. The main believers are Russian overseas Chinese in Han, and the clergy in China are mostly mixed-race Chinese and Russian. Therefore, few people in China believe in the Orthodox Church in Wuhan. Now, the church has become a place for public weddings.

Six, Boxue Middle School Church

The church was built in 1907, with a building area of over 600 square meters. That was the campus building built by the Christian Association in London, England.

The original name of this church is Wei Memorial Hall, and its main body presents a typical English Gothic architectural style. Unlike French churches, English Gothic churches do not strive to be tall, but stand in the crowded city center. They are usually built in an open rural environment. Except for some famous cathedrals in Britain, most of them are small rural churches, which are very kind and simple and generally adopt the form of one hall and one tower. The wooden structure built in the church is beautiful, exquisite and distinctive.

Wei's memorial chapel belongs to this kind of small church, and the altar in the chapel is located at the top of the cross. This nearly 100-year-old building retains its vicissitudes. It is a rare classic of English Gothic church in Hubei.

Seven, Hankou Rongguang Hall

This church is the largest existing Christian church in Wuhan. It was built by Christians in China in 193 1 year. The original hall was named in memory of Yang, a missionary of the Christian Church in London. Yang arrived in Hankou on June 2 186 1. He was the first person that Christianity (Protestantism) was introduced into Wuhan. 19511On February 23rd, the church officially changed its name to Glory Hall by adopting the famous sentence of "Peace is in heaven and glory is in the highest place" in the Bible.

This hall is in the style of Gothic architecture. The red brick drywall is a three-story brick-wood structure, with a gallery office building on the bottom floor and a worship hall on the second floor. There is a dome-shaped altar, which can accommodate 1000 people to worship at the same time. The third floor is an open small viewing platform.

The bell tower on the front of Rongguangtang is towering, and the red tile slopes are bounded by crosses. The wall emphasizes vertical lines, alternating with solid arched doors and windows, forming a strong feeling of flying to the sky, and the prominent waistline outlined at the bottom makes the whole building look simple and generous. The cornerstone of its right foot is still well preserved. Now, in addition to holding normal religious activities, the church is also a place for large-scale activities of the Christian "two sessions" in Wuhan.

Eight, Hankou Salvation Hall

475 Hanzheng Street, Hankou 430033 027-586 1899 9:00.

The location of the church is the earliest missionary place of Christian British Methodist Church in Wuhan. Guo Xiu, an English missionary of the church, came to Wuhan eight months later than Yang. They belong to the two major sects of British Christianity in Hubei. Salvation Church, formerly known as Datong Lane Gospel Church, is one of the early churches in Wuhan. After being demolished because of obsolescence and narrowness, the present salvation church is rebuilt on the original site of the evangelical church.

The present Salvation Hall was built in 1930, which is a combination of Chinese and western architectural styles. The red brick drywall is a two-story brick-wood structure with a Latin cross layout and a construction area of about 780 square meters. Between the hall and the front gatehouse is a courtyard with Fu Su flowers and trees, which is spacious and elegant. The front gatehouse consists of three sections, semi-circular arched windows and exquisite mountain flowers. The most intriguing thing is that there are four octagonal towers on the roof.

The entrance of the hall is a single-eave glazed tile Chinese helmet roof, and there is a big cross window with a white A Ring of Endless Light crown in the middle of the second floor of the facade, which gives people a strong sense of religious atmosphere. The altar in the hall is also unique. The altar has no dome, and boldly adopts the stage mode. On the plane wall of worship, a large cross window with a diameter of 2 meters was opened with colored glass. These peculiar designs fully demonstrate the cultural connotation that Protestantism does not worship idols.

193 1 year, after the British Methodist Church was renamed China Methodist Church, Salvation Church was once the central church of Hubei Methodist Church.

Nine, Wuchang Christmas Church

Wuchang Christmas Church is located in Hubei College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. You can take 52 1.606 to Liangdao Street.

This is the first church built by the Anglican Church in Wuhan. It is located at the eastern end of Tanhualin in Wuchang. Since1February 25, 870, the church has been named the Church of the Christmas.

The Church of the Christmas is a Greek temple with corridor architecture, with a building area of 533 square meters, a single-story brick-wood structure, a square layout, a flat roof, simple flowers and columns. Many essential architectural elements of the Christian church have been removed from its body, and its columns are also the product of the floral design with the Corinthian stigma removed from ancient Greece. This simple and slender column is more solemn and elegant, symbolizing the beauty of women. The Virgin Mary is caring for the son Jesus and attracting believers to worship.

The architectural design of Christmas Church is a bold innovation, which more or less shows some personalities of American designers. This kind of Christian church imitating Greek temples is very rare at home and abroad, and it is undoubtedly a rare cultural resource in Wuhan.

X. Wuchang St. Michel church

Located in Fuxing Road, Wuchang, this church is one of many churches with holy characters built by the Anglican Church in Wuhan. The Anglican Church has a strong economic strength and is the most powerful Christian Sect in Hubei. In A.D. 1868, Bishop Wei and his party came to Wuhan to preach for the first time. After development, the command centers of Hubei, Hunan, Anhui and Jiangxi of the Anglican Church are located in Hankou. This church is the closest to Catholicism in Protestant Christianity, so all the churches in the Anglican Church have major protection.

St Michael's church is named after Michael, the Lord Paul. The church was built in 19 18, with Gothic architectural style, two-story brick-wood structure and Latin cross layout. Its body is slender. The tops of the two slopes are steep, the facades are towering and straight, and the doors and windows are Gothic pointed arches, which often give people the feeling of striving for progress.

At present, the first floor is an office building and the second floor is a worship hall. There is a white jade baptismal pool about 1 m high in front of the altar, which is beautifully carved. The wooden structure in the hall is well-made and varied, which embodies the designer's ingenious idea. There is also a supporting priest building and a wide courtyard. There is a huge old elm tree in the yard, and the dense shade contrasts with the Parthenocissus tricuspidata, which makes all the guests here leave a good impression.
