"May Festival" is the Dragon Boat Festival on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. First, the origin of the Dragon Boat Festival:

The origin of dragon boat festival-in memory of qu yuan. This theory originated from the records of Wu Jun's "Continuation of Qi and Harmony" in the Southern Liang Dynasty and "Time of Jingchu" in the Northern Zhou Dynasty. It is said that Qu Yuan threw himself into the river on the fifth day of May. Trapped by mosquitoes and dragons after death, the world mourned. Every day, he throws five-color silk zongzi into the water to drive away the dragon. It is also said that after Qu Yuan threw himself into the river, the local people immediately rowed to rescue him, and all the way to Dongting Lake, but Qu Yuan's body was not found. It was raining at that time, and the boats on the lake gathered at the pavilion on the shore. When people learned that it was to salvage the sage Dr. Qu, they went out in the rain and rushed into the vast Dongting Lake. In order to mourn, people rowed on rivers, and later it gradually developed into a dragon boat race. Eating zongzi and racing dragon boats on the Dragon Boat Festival seems to be related to commemorating Qu Yuan, as evidenced by Wen Xiu's poem Dragon Boat Festival in the Tang Dynasty. "The festival is divided into Dragon Boat Festival, and it is widely rumored that it is Qu Yuan through the ages. I can laugh at the empty space of the Chu River, but I can't wash it straight. " In addition, there are various theories about the origin of the Dragon Boat Festival, among which the theory of commemorating Qu Yuan has the most extensive influence. Because of Qu Yuan's great personality and superb poetic skills, people are willing to attribute this anniversary to him. Second, the custom of the Dragon Boat Festival:

1. Dragon boat rowing: Dragon boat rowing is the most important part of the May Festival (the back door is the ninth day of May). It used to be once every few years, but with the all-round development of Haifeng's various undertakings, this event will continue to be held this year after the success of the dragon boat race in 2005. On the Dragon Boat Festival, Haifeng County was deserted. We went to Longjinxi to see the heroic spirit of Haifeng local team. There is a "cow stepping on rice" in Haicheng, and a "cutting rope" in towns and villages. The back door is marked green and inserted into a quadrangle, which is called "four-cent gold". The dragon boat consists of three parts: the dragon head, the hull and the dragon tail. The new ship will be launched to worship the dragon head. Before the competition, a flag-opening ceremony will be held: dragon boat and paddle rowers should worship uncle and Mazu with only one purpose-"winning the flag". Due to the limitation of Jinlong River, the dragon boat is about 10 meter long, with 7 pairs of rowers, a helmsman and a rower. In previous years, the podium was located between the old bridgehead and the new bridge, and the tails of the two award-winning ships were connected at the starting point. As the referee gave the order, the dragon boat sounded and drums sounded everywhere, and the athletes struggled to paddle. The gongs and drums control the whole ship, while the paddlers just paddle and the rudder keeps the direction stable. At the climax of winning the bid, the splash caused by the paddle can cover the whole ship. People watching on the shore can't see the dragon boat, only "Yunlong" is dancing on the river. The two ships went in opposite directions for several hundred meters, and then turned back at the bottom of the old and new bridges. Whoever reaches the initial starting position first will win. Those who won the first prize, accompanied by suona, swam across the river (sea) and performed the "first prize drama" to celebrate. The contestants are beaming and the people are happy to feast their eyes. The government also took this opportunity to create a golden platform to attract investment. 2. Pick up water at noon: generally take a basin or bucket and add water to the roadside. After noon, it is said that this kind of water can be preserved for a long time without rotting for future adjustment; And those calamus and the like are put in a pot to boil water for bathing and wiping the body. Folk beliefs can drive away diseases and evil spirits. Noon water refers to the water that is drilled at noon on the Dragon Boat Festival. It is said that the water used to make tea and wine at noon is particularly mellow, and drinking raw water even has a miraculous effect on treating diseases. There is a proverb: "Wash your eyes at noon, and you will be as bright as a crow." In some rural areas, the water of Dragon Boat Festival is regarded as divine water. On that day, people will go to the stream to fetch water for bathing, washing their hair and cooking. Due to the limited surrounding environment when I was a child, I just put a little water from the faucet at noon that day to "eat well". 3. Eat jiaozi, peaches and plums. Angular zongzi has a long history and contains profound cultural connotations and national plots. As early as the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, there were historical records. It is said that people along the Miluo River used zongzi to feed arowana lobster in the river in order to preserve the body of Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet who cast himself into the river. "Dream of China in Tokyo" in the Song Dynasty reads: "It is also a legacy of tears that people in this world make zongzi on May 5." Today, which has lasted for more than two thousand years, zongzi are given to each other before the festival, and many families have to soak glutinous rice, wash zongzi leaves and wrap zongzi, with more varieties of colors. From the perspective of fillings, there are many kinds of fillings such as bean paste, fresh meat, ham and egg yolk. The custom of eating zongzi has been popular in China for thousands of years. In recent years, it has spread to neighboring countries and even entered the European and American markets. 4, offering sacrifices to the gods and ancestors, inserting grass, wormwood (Haifeng whispered "brother"), calamus, and banyan leaves. Scrubbing grass is a magical grass often used by people in Hailufeng area for Chinese New Year holidays and weddings and funerals, which means exorcising evil spirits. Folium Artemisiae Argyi represents a hundred blessings and is a kind of medicinal material that can cure diseases. During the May Festival, people will make a circle with grass, pomegranate flowers, garlic and dragon boat flowers and hang them on the lintel window sill to drive away evil spirits. Using calamus as a sword and inserting it on the lintel has the magical effect of exorcising ghosts. Dragon Boat Festival is also a "health festival" handed down from ancient times. On this day, people clean the courtyard, hang mugwort branches and calamus, shake the turbidity, remove rot, sterilize and prevent diseases. There are also activities such as offering sacrifices to gods and ancestors, which embodies the fine tradition of the Chinese nation.
