Laohudong Mountain is located 2.5 kilometers east of Wenyan Town. The Lianhua Temple on the mountain was originally called Laohudong Temple. It is famous for the Tiger Cave behind the Guanyin Hall. Due to the geographical limitations of the entire Laohudong mountain top, Lianhua Temple was built on Halfway up the mountain, the temple buildings are layered up the mountain. Viewed from the bottom up, the scale is very huge. It is an older temple in the area and is said to have been first built in the Song Dynasty. It was rebuilt during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty and was called Lianhua Nunnery at that time. It has eleven rooms and eight Buddhist monks. During the Anti-Japanese War, the Japanese army built a fort and occupied it, so the nuns fled. After 1949, only the Guanyin Hall and the Yuanshi Hall were still taken care of. It was destroyed during the "Cultural Revolution" and its incense was cut off.
Han Genhua, a local Buddhist disciple, and her husband accidentally fell into the sea on their way to Mount Putuo in the summer of 1986. The old man was not good at water, but he was still floating freely in the water. He was rescued by the crew nearly three-quarters of an hour later. Han Genhua thought this was the blessing of Guanyin Bodhisattva. I vowed to go up the mountain to rebuild the ashram for the Bodhisattva. At the beginning, Han Genhua used her family's only 740 yuan, 5,000 bricks, and seven cement boards to start the business, and raised donations to build the Yuantong Hall. Subsequently, the Three Holy Temples, the Heavenly King's Hall, the Main Hall, the Yuanshi Hall, the Bell Tower, etc. were restored and built year by year. The number of lecturers gradually increased, and the incense became more and more popular. In 1998, it was approved as an open temple by the Hangzhou Municipal People's Government.
