How to adjust the monitor

When newbies use computers, they usually only pay attention to the settings of accessories such as hard drives and motherboards, but ignore the monitor. In fact, the adjustment of the monitor is also very important. When you turn on the computer, the display area of ??the monitor is often asymmetrical, the brightness is unreasonable, and even some malfunctions occur when playing games. So how do novices adjust their monitors? The following is a detailed explanation for beginner users who are completely new to the industry.

The monitor is one of the most important accessories in the computer. It communicates directly with the human eye. In order to protect your eyes, you cannot miss debugging the OSD menu by yourself. Generally speaking, the monitor OSD menu includes settings such as brightness, contrast, graphics, size, and water ripple.

1. Adjust the color display effect

Generally speaking, the default display effect of the monitor you just bought may not be what we want. It is inevitable to adjust it according to your own requirements. First, press the OSD adjustment button to turn on the main screen. Click the button menu and enter "Color Management". Generally, three common color temperature modes of 9300K, 6500K, and 5500K are provided for us to choose from. If you choose to enter the "USER" user mode (some monitors are "RGB"), you can adjust the three primary colors. RGB performs independent detailed adjustments.

Generally, the default sRGB (Standard RGB) color temperature setting of the Windows system we use is 6500K; while for image art processing for printing purposes, the color temperature used is set at 5000K. Since the judgment of color by our human eyes is severely affected by the background light source at that time, in addition to the adjustment of the color temperature of the display, it is also very important.

General monitors provide brightness, contrast and sharpness adjustment functions in the "Color Management" (as shown in Figure 2). For brightness, it is recommended to generally set it between 60-80. If the setting is too bright (such as 100), it will easily cause eye fatigue and premature aging of phosphors. The contrast can generally be set between 80-100. If the setting is too small, the color contrast will be too single, resulting in serious discoloration of the image. Similarly, for ordinary Internet and office users, it is more reasonable to set the resolution to around 70, while game users can set it to above 90.

2. Adjust the screen display effect

You must have encountered that when you bought the monitor, you turned on the computer and found that the display area of ??the monitor was not complete, either more on the left or less on the right, and some even deformed. . We can solve these problems by entering the "Picture Adjustment" and adjusting the two major items "Picture" and "Geometry".

Enter the "Picture" area, which generally includes adjusting the horizontal and vertical positions of the monitor image, as well as the horizontal and vertical display area size of the image displayed on the monitor (Figure 4). Generally, when a user uses a monitor for the first time, the position of the screen display is incorrect, or the vertical screen is too large, the horizontal screen is too small, and similar situations occur. This option allows the user to adjust the screen position of the monitor to display it correctly.

The geometric adjustment options are mainly used by users to adjust the geometric distortion produced by a monitor during display. Options such as pincushion distortion, rectangular distortion, trapezoidal distortion, and barrel distortion are generally provided here (see Figure 5). For example, keystone distortion refers to the situation where one side of the image on the screen is larger than the other side, and barrel distortion refers to the phenomenon that the sides, top and bottom of the displayed image are irregularly distorted and uneven. Pincushion distortion is a phenomenon where both sides of the image are bent toward the same side. These adjustment options can be used to adjust to normal conditions.

3. Water ripple effect adjustment

Some high-end monitors have a water ripple adjustment function, because the water ripple condition of the display may vary depending on the pattern shape, display size, contrast, brightness, and other input signal characteristics. This option is mainly for users to make adjustments if they encounter a situation similar to water ripples. When encountering this kind of situation, enter the "Horizontal Ripple" option, and then adjust the water ripple parameters according to the actual situation until the monitor screen displays normally.

4. Display mode setting

In addition, it also has functional options such as "Degaussing" and "Restore to original mode". For different user needs, some monitors have multiple display modes for us to choose from, such as text mode, Internet mode, entertainment mode, game mode, etc. This greatly facilitates the application needs of different users.

Term explanation:

Brightness/Contrast

Low brightness and contrast will lose some details, and the picture will also lack hierarchy. Generally speaking, increasing the brightness by 5-8% and the contrast by 10-15% can make the picture look sharper and the colors more vivid.

Saturation

Saturation refers to the depth of a color. Increasing its value can make the color look richer, but it is also a difficult adjustment item to handle.

If it is set too high, the edges of the image will become blurred and the coloring will be inaccurate; if it is set too low, the colors of the image will appear dull and dull. According to the author's experience, in most cases, increasing the value by 5-15% can achieve satisfactory results.

Hue

Hue adjustment depends largely on personal feelings. It is better not to adjust unless necessary. However, this is very useful for some monitors with color deviations. You can make some adjustments to make the colors look more natural.

When adjusting the color tone, it is best to adjust it according to the person's skin color
