Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, with its capital in mengzi city, is one of the 16 prefecture-level administrative regions in Yunnan Province. Located in the southeast of Yunnan Province, it borders Kunming and Qujing in the north, Wenshan in the east, Yuxi and Pu 'er in the west and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in the south. The Tropic of Cancer runs through the east and west.

Honghe Prefecture is located at101゜ 47 ′ ~104 ゜16 ′, and 22 ゜ 26 ′ ~ 24 ゜ 45 ′ north latitude. It is located in the southeast of Yunnan Province, bordering Kunming in the north.

Honghe Prefecture is located in the southeast of Yunnan Province, adjacent to Vietnam, with a border of 848 kilometers. The terrain is high in the northwest and low in the southeast. The terrain is divided into four parts: mountain range, karst plateau, basin (dam) and river valley. The main mountain range is Ailao Mountain, which is a southern extension of Yunlin Mountain on the east side of Lancang River in the southern section of Hengduan Mountain.

The Red River Rift divides the territory into two parts: the north and the south. The southern part is Ailao Mountain, with high mountain, deep valley, steep slope and complex terrain. The northern part is the karst plateau area, where mountains and rivers are arranged alternately, and the terrain is relatively flat, especially the karst landform.

The famous Alu Ancient Cave in Luxi, Yanzi Cave in Jianshui, Bailong Cave in Maitreya and Kaiyuan South Cave are all located here. The highest point of Honghe Prefecture is Xilongshan in the southwest of Jinping County, with an altitude of 3074.3 meters. The lowest is at the intersection of Honghe and nanxi river in Hekou County, with an altitude of 76.4 meters.
