Why does pomegranate have the meaning of "many children and many blessings"?
Pomegranate has profound symbolic significance in China traditional culture. People in China prefer to get a "lottery ticket" when they are happy and auspicious. Among them, an important feature of Chinese is applied: many Chinese characters have the same pronunciation and different meanings. The use of Chinese homophones can be used as an expression of some auspicious meaning. For example, when marrying a bride, you should put some dates, peanuts, longan and lotus seeds, which means "having a baby early". It has the same meaning as "Liu Kaibaizi". Pomegranate is a story of children and grandchildren, which was first seen in the Northern Qi Dynasty in the history of China. According to the biography of Wei Shoushi in Northern Qi Dynasty, Prince Andrew of Wen Xuandi married Wei Shoushi, and Wei Shoushi's wife presented two pomegranates. Wendi asked him what he meant. Xiao Wei said: Congratulations, Your Majesty, there are many kinds of pomegranates, and the prince is newly married. This means that the royal family is prosperous and many children are blessed. Emperor Wen was overjoyed and rewarded Wei Shou. Later generations used pomegranate as a metaphor for "full house of children and grandchildren" and "successors", which has been used ever since.
