Mazu is the most revered god in Taiwan Province's folk beliefs. At the beginning of emigrating to Taiwan Province, Mazu was regarded as the patron saint of fishermen. After the late Qing Dynasty, Mazu gradually changed from the role of patron saint to the role of the general public. Later, Mazu appeared in Beigang, Penghu, Lukang and Guandu, which made more and more believers worship Mazu.

According to legend, Mazu was born in Putian County, Xinghua, Fujian Province, and didn't cry until the full moon. Therefore, he was named Moline Niang. Smart and kind since childhood, he often worships God and Buddha. At the age of thirteen, Mo Niang was taught by a Taoist priest. At the age of sixteen, she got a pair of bronze symbols of immortality from the forest. Since then, she has been able to exorcise evil spirits. When I was an adult, my parents discussed marriage, but Mo Niang refused to marry, at the age of 28.
