"Midnight Diner" is a Japanese warm-hearted film directed by Matsuoka Tsuji and starring Kaoru Kobayashi. The film was released in Japan on January 31, 2015.

The film is adapted from the manga of the same name by Yoro Abe. It tells the story of the joys and sorrows of customers in a small restaurant that is only open late at night in a certain alley in bustling Shinjuku.

Main plot

In the corner of Shinjuku Golden Street in Tokyo, there is a small restaurant. The long days are over every day. When people rush home, the day here has just begun. Open from 12 midnight to 7 am. The boss is probably in his fifties or sixties. Judging from the hanging menu, it is very simple: pork miso soup set, beer, Japanese sake, soju, but as long as the customer orders, whatever the boss can do, he will make it for you. If you ask if there are any customers, the boss will proudly tell you that there are quite a few. It is in this quiet time of night, in this corner where the hustle and bustle of the city has faded away, that the guests coming in and out interpret stories one after another, showing the various aspects of life.
