Dong architecture

Dong village is generally located in the mountainous area, surrounded by terraced fields, with a long stream at the foot and towering trees at the end of the village. There are six or seven hundred large Dong villages and twenty or thirty small ones. Houses in Dong Village are generally wooden buildings built by fir trees, ranging from small buildings with one or two floors to buildings with three or four floors.

Drum Tower is the most distinctive building in Dong Village. Generally, there are one or two villages, and there are four or five larger stockades. Drum Tower is a double-eaved building with wood structure, and its construction technology integrates the technologies of "dry well", "barrel-piercing" and "beam-lifting" of China wood structure.

Where the Dong people live in compact communities, where there is a river, there is a bridge. Bridges are mostly built on the main road at the end of the village, including wooden bridges, stone arch bridges, stone slab bridges and bamboo raft bridges. Among them, the long corridor wooden bridge named "Wind and Rain Bridge" or "Flower Bridge" is famous at home and abroad for its unique artistic structure and superb architectural skills.
