The script idea of The Turkey Story comes from screenwriter david stern. The original idea was to put two turkeys back on the day when Thanksgiving was born, trying to remove their own group from the Thanksgiving menu. In the process of perfecting Stern's idea, he came together with John J Straw, who is also a screenwriter. It took them six months to explore many unique and exciting ideas for this idea, which made the whole story more mature. The addition of Jimmy Hayward, the screenwriter of the film Horton and Who, makes the whole story more humorous.

In traditional movies, the concept of "crossing" is no longer pleasing, and the creative staff insist on setting strong crossing colors for the film. But the difference is that in an animated feature film featuring "Turkey", the setting of "crossing to change recipes" is full of new ideas. Jimmy Hayward, the film's director, worked in Pixar and Blue Sky Studio, so Hayward has a deep animation background.
