According to the joint document issued by the two sides on the same day, the delegation of the National Olympic Committee, athletes' groups, cheerleaders, taekwondo demonstration groups and journalists' groups sent by the DPRK will visit Korea by land via the Jingyi line. The North Korean team will visit Korea on February 1 day, and the delegation of the National Olympic Committee, cheerleaders and other groups will visit Korea on February 7. The return time is decided by both parties through consultation.
However, the joint document did not specify whether the DPRK delegation entered South Korea through the Jingyi line railway or highway.
The total length of the Jingyi line railway is 518km, which runs to Seoul in the south and Sinuiju in the north. Along this railway, a highway was also built.
The Jingyi Railway was once an important trunk line running through the north and south of the Korean Peninsula, but it was interrupted after the Korean War. In 2000, Korea and North Korea reached an agreement on reconnecting the Jingyi line railway, and in 2007, the inter-section train was put into trial operation, which realized the first time that the train of Korea and North Korea crossed the military demarcation line in more than 50 years. Later, with the deterioration of relations between the two sides, the railway across the north and south stopped running again.
However, in South Korea, a "peace train" running in the North Korean section of the Jingyi line has been opened.
The "Peace Train" is a train from Seoul to the demilitarized zone of Korea and North Korea. The train departs from the Korean capital, travels north to the border between Korea and North Korea, and then returns.
The "Peace Train" has three carriages and is decorated with the theme of symbolizing peace, love and harmony in the demilitarized zone. Outside the car 1 is a picture of a steam locomotive, and other cars are painted with pictures of people of different ages and nationalities holding hands. The interior of the carriage is also decorated with windmills symbolizing peace, balloons symbolizing freedom, railways and so on.
After 90 minutes' drive, you can come to Duluoshan Station, the terminal of this train, from Seoul. This is the closest railway station in South Korea to Kaesong in North Korea, only about two kilometers away from the demilitarized zone between South Korea and North Korea, which is commonly known as the "38th parallel". The stop sign on the platform records the uniqueness here.
