Subshrubs or shrubs, 50 ~ 60 cm tall, with spiny stems. Leaves alternate, oblong or ovate-lanceolate, 7.5 ~ 15 cm long, obtuse or short apex, entire or wavy. Cymes have blue flowers, 5-lobed corollas and 5 stamens. The fruit is oval or ovoid, with long and sharp stalks. When it is mature, it is yellow with purple stripes. The skin is extremely thin, the meat is light yellow to yellow, juicy, and the flavor is similar to that of melon, but the sweetness is lower and the acidity is less (Figure 4-35). The varieties promoted in Taiwan Province Province are Misky, Kawei and Suma; ; There are two varieties named by the masses themselves, sweet and honey, whose sources are unknown. Seed propagation or cutting propagation. The cuttings are about 20 cm long. They are first treated with auxin and then inserted into a seedbed mixed with loam and sand. After the roots survive, they can be planted. It is suitable for planting in spring, with row spacing of about 1.5m and plant spacing of about 60cm. After planting, after fertilization, irrigation, erecting pillars and other management work, the fruit can be produced in several months, and it takes about 70 days from fruit to maturity. Melon and eggplant are mainly eaten raw, and can be used as salad or mixed with other fruits to make juice. With special fragrance, it is advisable to introduce improved varieties for trial planting.
