The stage play adapted from the Chinese classical literary masterpiece A Dream of Red Mansions was put on the stage of Yue Opera as early as 1930s. 1958, Shanghai Yue Theatre took it as a key rehearsal to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
