This is a poem praising winter dishes in Fan Chengda's Pastoral Miscellaneous Xing in Song Dynasty. The poem reveals the cabbage that people can still grow resolutely in freezing weather, and describes them as sweet and sour as honey lotus root, but more delicious than honey lotus root. When I mention cabbage, I think of Qi Baishi, a great painter. Qi Baishi likes painting Chinese cabbage very much all his life, and often paints with its fat, white and green characteristics.
The cabbages he wrote are fresh, tender, watery and full of vitality, and look full and strong. He has many famous Chinese cabbage paintings, such as loquat Chinese cabbage, Chinese cabbage insects, Chinese cabbage peppers and so on, which are full of interest. Among them, he wrote in a painting of cabbage and pepper: Peony is the king of flowers, litchi is the first fruit, whether cabbage is the king of vegetables or not. Qi Lao complained about cabbage, and his words were full of love for cabbage.

A painter tried to paint cabbage like Qi Baishi, but he couldn't draw it at all. Finally, he couldn't help it, so he asked Qi Baishi what tricks he had. Qi Baishi laughed after listening: You don't have the taste of vegetables and bamboo shoots. How can you paint like me? Qi Baishi was born in a peasant family and is familiar with Chinese cabbage.
In Qi Baishi's eyes, if a person does not have the taste of "vegetable bamboo shoots", of course, he can't draw cabbage like him. He also painted a picture with Chinese cabbage, bamboo shoots and other themes. Cabbage is simple and lovely all its life, with a strong smell of smoke and fire, entering the homes of ordinary people and becoming a frequent visitor to home-cooked dishes. Therefore, people regard Chinese cabbage as "the dish of the people".
