Ginseng fruit was once called Xiang Yan eggplant, Xiang Yan mango, ginseng fruit, longevity fruit, purple eggplant, sweet eggplant, melon pear and Xiang Yan pear in China. Ginseng fruit is a perennial plant of Solanaceae and Solanum. Its height is 60 ~ 150 cm, the stem base is lignified, and adventitious roots are easy to occur on nodes. The basal leaves are oval, the upper leaves are tomato-like and the leaves are fluffy. Berries are oval or conical. When they are mature, their skin is light yellow, some have purple stripes, and their meat is light milky yellow.
Ginseng fruit is native to South America and grows near sea level to 3000 meters above sea level. It performs best in warm and relatively frost-free climates. Its growth mode is similar to that of related plants (such as tomatoes), but it grows naturally and vertically, and its growth speed is fast. It can bear fruit after planting for 4 ~ 6 months and propagate by cutting.
Growth habit
Ginseng fruit, native to tropical South America, is a cultivated plant in the Andes. Mainly planted in the central coast of Peru, from Colombia to Bolivia at an altitude of1000 ~ 3000m. This is a common fruit in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Chile. Japanese and China also introduced cultivation.
I like a mild, humid and sunny environment. Not resistant to shade and heat, weak growth above 30℃; Afraid of frost, frost-free land can survive the winter. Not tolerant of drought and flood, water the basin in drought and prevent water accumulation in rainy season. A little more water is needed in the fruit period, but it is enough to keep the basin soil moist. It is advisable to choose deep and fertile sandy loam with good water retention.
Melon and eggplant can be propagated by seeds or cuttings, but in production, cuttings are generally used instead of seeds, and buds at any part of the plant can be used as propagation materials.
