China's Arbor Day began in commemoration of the death of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. 1979 On February 23rd, the 6th meeting of the 5th the NPC Standing Committee decided to keep March 12 as China's Arbor Day to encourage people of all ethnic groups to plant trees, green the motherland, improve the environment and benefit future generations.
