Saussurea involucrata is a perennial herb in Compositae. Use whole grass as medicine. Contains volatile oil, alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols and other compounds. It is pungent, slightly bitter and warm in nature. Has the effects of expelling pathogenic wind, removing dampness, dredging channels, promoting blood circulation, tonifying kidney and strengthening yang.

Treat snow blindness, toothache, rheumatoid arthritis, impotence, irregular menstruation, metrorrhagia, leucorrhea, etc. External treatment of traumatic hemorrhage is mainly produced in Tianshan Mountains and Pamirs in Xinjiang, with an altitude of 2,500 ~ 3,500 meters. There are also many kinds of Saussurea involucrata belonging to the same plant in the northwest and southwest plateaus of China, all of which can be used as medicine. Most of them are wild, and artificial cultivation is still difficult at present.

Like to grow in steep mountains, rocks, gravel or sandy wet places, mainly distributed near the plateau and alpine snow line, can be propagated with seeds.
