What is there to do in Chengde? What’s delicious in Chengde?

Chengde has the world’s largest royal garden, wooden Buddha and shortest river. In Chengde, there are many places in the world. This is a place worth seeing. Use your eyes to discover and feel the beauty of Chengde.

Go out for a walk every summer to enjoy the great rivers and mountains of the motherland. I went to Zhangjiajie and Xiangxi the year before last and experienced the magnificent mountains and rivers of Hunan, the horror of the glass plank road, and the simplicity and purity of Xiangxi. Last year we visited Qinghai Lake, Chaka Salt Lake, Dunhuang and Zhangye along the Hexi Corridor. But this year, due to corporate internship tasks, I didn’t have much time to waste, so I had to find a place closer. So this year’s summer trip was chosen in Chengde, which is more than 200 kilometers away from the capital. I followed the emperor's footsteps to see the "Summer Resort and the Eight Outer Palaces" of the Summer Palace of the Qing Dynasty.

Itinerary planning

Day 1: Arrival at night

Day 2: Summer Resort, Puning Temple, Jin Dynasty Kangxi Ceremony

The third day: Putuo Zongcheng Temple, Xumishan Fushou Temple, Nanyingzi Street

Tips

Appropriate clothes (very important, the temperature difference between morning and evening is large in Chengde Mountain area, especially at night when watching the peaks When Dynasty performs), ID card ID card! The important things need to be said three times! Bank card, mobile phone, a small amount of cash.

Accommodation: The most important thing for students when going out is the physical examination (pian) (yi), so I always prefer youth hostels when traveling abroad. This time we booked a youth hostel, priced at 40 yuan per bed. A standard room in an express hotel costs three to four hundred yuan everywhere, which is beyond the consumption range of our student party.

Food: In big hotels, they only look for local snacks. I recommend a few good ones: Xing Meet You (the first almond product); Lao Ding Mutton Soup (the first mutton soup sesame cake); Muslim Hui (the first picture is fried chicken slices with cabbage); Scissor Face.

Summer Resort

I walked out of the youth hostel early in the morning and went straight to "Xing Meets You", which was very popular on reviews, for breakfast, and then bought it from him as the netizen said Get discounted tickets for the nightclubs at Dynasty in its heyday, and start playing Summer Resort with their Summer Resort audio guide.

It must be said that the summer resort exists in name only and cannot escape summer at all. After ten o'clock in the morning, people who are basking in the sun are covered in oil, and people who are not in good physical condition will really suffer from heatstroke. It feels like it is at least 38 or 9 degrees. I really want to ask Emperor Kangxi: Are you kidding me?

Compared with the Forbidden City here, the palace area where the emperor handled state affairs is extremely simple and devoid of royal style at all. But its back garden is extremely large. It is estimated that none of the 10 royal gardens in the Forbidden City is as big as a forest in the Summer Resort. It shows that the emperor still prefers the mountains and rivers here.

Kangxi and Qianlong respectively mentioned 36 scenic spots in the summer resort. The thirty-six scenes of Kangxi are all mentioned in four words, and the thirty-six scenes of Qianlong are all mentioned in three words. What they mentioned together is called the Seventy-Two Scenes of Kangxi and Qianlong. However, there is much more to the Mountain Resort during its glory days than just these 72 attractions. It is a pity that most of these scenic spots were destroyed in that turbulent era, and there are not many left.

The distance between the Summer Resort and the Eight Outer Temples is very close. Looking at the map, there are 12 temples around the Summer Resort from east to north. However, many travel notes mention that of the eight outer temples, only Puning Temple, Putuo Zongcheng Temple (Little Potala Palace), and Xumi Fushou Temple (Pancheng Palace) are truly worth visiting. Others have either been destroyed or there is nothing left worth visiting. Therefore, I only chose to visit these three temples. To be honest, going to the temple is really a torture for someone like me who has no interest in Buddhism. Fortunately, the temples in Chengde have beautiful scenery, and the photos taken are quite memorable.

Puning Temple among the Eight Outer Temples;

Puning Temple

Puning Temple is the only royal temple with incense among the Eight Outer Temples. There are many lamas wearing Tibetan robes inside. There are many incense sellers at the entrance and in the scenic area, but we don’t have any incense because we really have no faith. But in the end, we couldn't help but donate 10 yuan to Gong

Grand performance: The Kangxi Ceremony of the Jin Dynasty

Chengde is a city where everything seems to be related to the Qing emperor . The scenic spots are made by the emperor, and the delicious food is also eaten by the emperor. The performance in the evening is also the legendary life of Emperor Kangxi. I'm thinking that if Emperor Kangxi had not built a summer resort here, Chengde might not have existed.

I didn’t plan to watch the show originally, because the ticket price of more than 100 yuan still hurt the hearts of our student party. However, there really isn’t much to do in Chengde at night. After arriving here on the first night, I asked the owner of the youth hostel. It seems like there's really no nightlife other than walking along the river. In addition, the flight ticket Xinghao booked to meet you was really much cheaper, so I went with bad intentions. The show proved to be quite worth it. At least the rigid conditions for the number of people dancing under the lights will make you feel that the money is well spent and it is not a scam.

Little Potala Panchen Palace

Putuo Zongcheng Temple is the official name of the Little Potala Palace. Because it was built after the Potala Palace in Tibet, people called it the "Little Potala Palace". I suspect Emperor Qianlong never went to Tibet or saw the Potala Palace with his own eyes. But there must have been many people describing to him how grand the Potala Palace was. They said that Emperor Qianlong felt itchy but couldn't really go, so he ordered a replica to be built in Chengde. That's what being an emperor is like.

You can build a similar one using all the goodies in the world around you. With imperial power, you can control the whole world without leaving home.

The Temple of Fortune and Longevity in Xumi Mountain

The Temple of Fortune and Longevity in Mount Xumi is the last royal temple among the eight outer temples. The temple was built to coincide with the 70th birthday of Emperor Qianlong. The Sixth Panchen Lama, who was far away in Tibet, took the initiative to come over to wish him a birthday. Emperor Qianlong was very happy and ordered people to build the Panchen Palace. If the Panchen Lama had not taken the initiative to come to the audience, I am afraid there would not be this temple. Sadly, the 6th Panchen Lama died of smallpox during this trip. I think neither he nor Emperor Qianlong nor the Tibetan monks thought that his visit would last forever.

Gourmet articles

To be honest, there are really not many delicious snacks in Chengde. We found it based on reviews and guides, and we haven’t been to any big hotels. I’ve been to many snack bars, and here are a few that I’d like to recommend.

1. Xinghao meets you.

This store mainly sells almond products and has been recommended by many netizens. The ranking in the reviews is also good, but there is not much to eat. The almond tea really deserves a compliment. His family mainly provides good service. He patiently introduces you to this and that, and can also help you book discounted tickets. Overall, it’s four and a half stars.

Second, Laosan mutton soup

I saw several mutton soup restaurants in Chengde, all of which were Laosan mutton soup. I originally wanted to go to Lao Ding, which is very popular on the Internet, but when I went to the Potala Palace, I happened to see the third mutton soup restaurant on the roadside, so I got out of the car and went to eat it. The taste is okay, not smelly. I don't know what other homes smell like, but I guess it won't be much different. Recommendation index 4 stars.

Third, the Muslim Hui people.

I am exhausted looking for this store. It was recommended by a local who said it was a restaurant owned by Muslims and the local dishes were very good. Took a long time to find. There were a lot of people there at noon and it looked really hot. I ordered his signature dish "Fried Chicken with Cabbage", which is actually sweet and sour chicken slices. I don’t know why it’s so hot, but it’s better than the plain and elegant dishes. My friend and I spent 25 yuan to solve the lunch problem. Maybe cheapness is the core of its popularity. Recommendation index 4 stars.

4. Scissor Face

I also discovered this by reading the comments. It was noodles cooked in a copper pot that burned alcohol. Probably because the noodles are cut with scissors, they are called scissor noodles. It's also a sloppy name. Discounts available for reviews. Two people ordered a medium pot for 24.8 yuan. The food was not bad and tasted great. The only drawback is too much oil. The recommendation index is four and a half stars.

In addition to the Eight Temples at the Summer Resort, there are also some mountain and small temple attractions in Chengde city, but the online reviews were not very good, so I didn’t try them.

To be honest, traveling to Chengde just to enjoy the cool weather is really not a good choice. At least, it’s been really hot for us these days. If you really want to escape the heat, you have to go north to Bashang Grassland to cool down. However, due to limited time and having been to Bashang before, I did not plan to go to the grassland this time.

A suggestion for tourists who are planning to travel to Chengde: Chengde is a small city with relatively concentrated attractions, so you only have two days to explore. If you want to enjoy the cool summer and you have more than three days to play, it is recommended that you spend one day watching peak performances around the summer resort, and the rest of the time go to the grassland.

A piece of advice for all students. Take advantage of the summer vacation to go somewhere to play. If you don't make good use of the previous summer vacation and want to have fun in the following summer vacation, you will be worried and unhappy because of internships and job hunting.
