English sentence-making skills:
1) Subject: It is the subject of the sentence and the executor of the action. It can be a noun, pronoun, gerund, infinitive or even a sentence.
Can act as a subject. For example:
The apple is red. (apple: noun as subject)
He likes apples. (He: pronoun as subject)
Reading in bed is a bad habit. (Reading: Gerund as Subject)
It is easier said than done. (Say: infinitive as subject)
What he did worried the teacher. (What he did: Sentence as the subject)
2) Predicate: usually composed of a single verb or verb phrase, which explains or describes the action, state or characteristics of the subject. For example:
My mother likes shopping. (Enjoy: a single verb as the predicate)
The boys are playing football on the playground. (Playing football: verb phrase as predicate)
3) Object: the person or thing involved in the action, that is, the object or content of the action. For example:
He bought a book yesterday. (a book: content)
