Wang Pan is known as the crown of Nanqu. A Sanqu writer and painter in the Ming Dynasty, he was also knowledgeable in medicine. The courtesy name is Hongjian, a native of Gaoyou, Jiangsu. When he was young, he failed to take the imperial examination and never held an official position in his life. He indulged himself in landscapes, poetry and painting, built a tower in the west of the city, and sang and chanted with the literati all day long, so he called himself "West Tower". During the Zhengde period, the eunuchs were in power. When ships arrived at Gaoyou, they often blew trumpets and harassed the people. He wrote a satirical poem "Chao Tianzi: Ode the Trumpet".
