David Stirling's first SAS was pieced together by a group of former commandos (survivors of Layforce) in North Africa in194/kloc-0. These commandos failed in their attempt to capture erwin rommel. Stirling was inspired by the Remote Desert Team-LRDG is the reconnaissance unit of desert navigation experts (The English Patient, etc.). )-I thought commandos could use 4x4 vehicles for air strikes like parachutes.
