It is a traditional custom to make zongzi on the Dragon Boat Festival. Zongzi, also known as "corn millet" and "tube zongzi". It has a long history and various patterns. On the morning of Dragon Boat Festival, every family eats zongzi to commemorate Qu Yuan. Zongzi is usually wrapped the day before, cooked at night and eaten in the morning.

Wang Zhongwu

A few days before the Double Ninth Festival, we should send food gifts to uncles, parents-in-law and godparents, commonly known as Double Ninth Festival or Hope Double Ninth Festival. Gifts are given mainly to zongzi, supplemented by fish and meat, commonly known as light bowls. The newly-married son-in-law hopes that there will be six kinds of the first Mid-Autumn Festival, commonly known as the heavy bowl. Whether it's four or six, there must be a considerable number of gifts in return. Usually there are salted duck eggs, fried Sophora beans, loquat, cattail leaf fan and dragon beard shoes in light bowls, and poplin or summer cloth, parasols and leather slippers in heavy bowls.

Acorus calamus and wormwood

On a heavy day at noon, we go to pick calamus, grass, clouds, maple tops, groundnut vines and tung leaves early in the morning, commonly known as "picking heads in May", but the plants we pick vary from region to region. People also put calamus and wormwood on the door, commonly known as "Pu Jian Ai Hu". There are also customs of hanging statues of Zhong Kui, hanging moxa sticks and inserting calamus swords everywhere in Dajing.

In the morning, put the "May Head Picking" into the zongzi ash soup to cook zongzi, chicken and duck eggs. Take a few mouthfuls of the cooked soup, and give the rest to the children to bathe. At the same time, drink realgar wine and use it to rub the child's head, ears, armpits, navel and other places. Realgar wine is also used to repel insects, snakes and scorpions, that is, put it in your mouth, spray it on walls and all wet corners, and then sprinkle lime.

Hanging sachet

Women use small pieces of cloth of various colors to make small bags in the shapes of gossip, zongzi, wooden fish and tiger. It contains cotton wool and incense sticks, commonly known as sachets, which are hung on the bed curtain or the child's chest to avoid filth. The girl still has a five-color silk rope tied to her wrist, commonly known as Qiaolun. Untie it on the Beggar's Day, wrap it around a long rice cake and throw it on the roof to lure magpies to build a bridge for the cowherd and weaver girl, hoping to become a needlework when they grow up.

Dragon Boat Racing

Dragon Boat Festival also has the custom of dragon boat race, also called water dragon. The habit of competition prevailed in wuyue and Chu.

The villages with hoses are all in the west of the county seat and Chengguan, but not in the east of the county seat. The hose does not calculate the speed by time, but paddles side by side with two boats at the same time, and the first one wins. After the game, all the hoses and gongs and drums rang, and they went back one after another, commonly known as "tearing down the river."
