Five kinds of clothes, "leather, cotton, cotton, coat and yarn", are necessary clothes for Wang Fu members in all seasons, and they seem to be indispensable.
There is a clothing store in the palace, and the head of the shopkeeper must be an official in the palace. From the early Qing Dynasty to the same light year, Wang Fu members changed clothes strictly, and the treasurer controlled Wang Ye's right to change clothes, so he was not allowed to change seasons at will. After the Revolution of 1911, taking my family as an example, the clothes warehouse and the utensils warehouse were combined into one, which actually became a storage room, and it was not up to the shopkeeper to change clothes.
As soon as possible, the clothes stored in the clothes warehouse are limited to official clothes (that is, imperial clothes and supplementary clothes) and casual clothes of the monarch. My wife's casual clothes are not stored in the warehouse, so every room suite has storage boxes and cabinets to store clothes. More than three paragraphs, less than two paragraphs. There is a record in A Dream of Red Mansions that the Jia family has a ladder, which is used to open the "top cabinet". It is not simple and complicated to change clothes every day and go out to change clothes. The underwear in summer should be changed every day, and the mothers who wash the room water are responsible for washing it. The sleeve lining and collar lining of underwear should be changed every day in winter. After starching, the maid in charge of clothes should sew them in turn, which must be done before getting up. Therefore, the servants in the palace are "each holding a corner" with clear responsibilities.
In my childhood, sleeves and collars should always be white. Even when writing in the study room, I must be careful. If you get inked, you will be reprimanded. Therefore, be careful when eating three meals during the eclipse. This material is all silk. Only when you go to school will you wear a blue cloth coat, one is to avoid getting dirty, and the other is to show frugality. When you get to school, you have to take off your cloth before you can go into each room to meet your elders. At this time, you don't have to kneel, but bow to show the "ceremony" of "Confucius disciples". If you don't do this in Wang Fu's life, it will be regarded as violating the ceremony of saints.
After the May 4th Movement, the clothing styles in the society have changed significantly. Although Wang Fu insists on its position, it cannot but be affected. Men's casual wear is not much different from society, while women are gradually changing. First, the qualitative change of clothing material to the change of style.
The wives of Manchu and Mongolian princes and nobles (including the internal affairs office) had extensive contact with the society, such as going out to the theatre, watching movies, visiting parks, visiting Dong 'an market, encouraging workshops and the New World and other public places. They all opened their eyes and saw a lot of fashionable clothes, and the clothes naturally changed with the changes. The outstanding changes are making shoes and buying shoes, and some even buy high heels (occasionally, of course). The choice of fabrics has also become a fashion. Buy high-grade fabrics such as kudzu vine, kudzu vine, five-flowered yarn, silk serge and Indian silk, and don't buy mandarin duck satin, hibiscus yarn and wild yarn. However, spun silk, straight yarn and horizontal yarn are still popular. What is particularly noteworthy here is that Gege's casual clothes are basically the same as those of men at that time, and there is little difference in style and color of materials, that is, a black jacket and vest are also set on the robe. In the early years, jackets and vests were not allowed to be sewn with black materials, usually stone blue (that is, red and blue). After the Revolution of 1911, this old chapter was broken, so when I was a child, I wore a single jacket and trousers with a black jacket. Those azurite mandarin jackets with pipa lapels and trimmings have become antiques, and old casual clothes have the same destination.
I remember washing my face, feet and ass before going to bed every night when I was a child. Put on a clean short suit after washing and put on socks before going to bed. According to mothers, this is an old chapter in the palace, and all children are like this. Otherwise, it is considered impolite. Now that I think about it, it is a good health care habit. It is not impolite to sleep in socks, but it is related to the Chinese saying: "Cold starts from the feet". At that time, I only knew what others said, but I still drew a gourd. I didn't think much about anything else.
The sleeve lining and collar lining mentioned above should be changed every day, and the gown should naturally be kept clean. However, the daily etiquette in Wang Fu, whether in the palace or the courtyard, is that when you meet your elders, you must kneel down. At this time, the gown must touch the ground, which is contradictory to keeping the gown clean. Fortunately, those square bricks are rotten, and they are cleaned every day, so there is not much time to get dirty.
Daily etiquette
In Wang Fu, all ages are respected in an orderly way, which is very strict. In addition to the activities of "saluting" and "paying homage" at the beginning of this article, there are also detailed etiquette and address rules here.
Let's talk about etiquette between young people and old people. The younger generation must never sit down in front of their elders. You can't stand the elders telling you to sit down. Rule of sitting: don't occupy the whole chair surface with your ass. It is not allowed to put all the weight of your body on the chair and sit up straight. You can only sit sideways on the edge or corner of the chair, and your feet and legs should bear part of the weight of your body to show your humility to your elders.
Never refute the opinions or orders of your elders, let alone refuse, just answer "Hey!" If the elders say something long, answer "Hey!" Every once in a while. It means that you are listening carefully. Answer softly if you say "Wow!" As loudly as in the current play or movie. That would be disrespectful.
There are many rules for a family to eat together. For example, always be careful not to make noise when the bowl collides with chopsticks, and don't make noise when chewing food or drinking soup. If my brother's granddaddy has finished eating, he should put down the chopsticks gently, say "eat slowly for grandma, eat slowly for mom", and then leave his seat quietly. Not only for parents, but also for older peers. This is a natural "order" of eating. In a word, etiquette is complicated and trivial, which goes deep into every aspect of daily life. If you are not careful, you will be rude, out of line or foul. Therefore, at any time and on any occasion, we should be vigilant, act cautiously and speak cautiously.
Upper and lower appellation
The most distinguished person in my family is my grandmother, and I call her wife (Manchu people call her mother at first). This name has been unknown for a long time, but my great-grandmother still calls her "great mother". The servant called his grandmother Tai Fujin. I call my uncle "Grandpa" and all the servants are addressed as "Wang Ye". I call my aunt "Da Da" and all the servants are respectfully called "Grandma Fujin". My name is my father, Ma (Manchu), and all the servants are addressed as "Sir Zhong". I call my mother "grandma" and all the servants call me "second grandma". My family is also called "grandpa" when compared with my father, and "dad" when compared with my father. Call my aunt's husband "Uncle". The servant is addressed as "Fu Daren", and some call his aunt "Aunt Dad". For my late grandfather, I called him "Ma Fa" (Manchu), while the servants called him "Tai Wang Ye". The young lady's name is Gege, and the young master's name is Brother or Brother. These two titles can be used in the same way. The concubines of the prince were promoted in turn, first as "girls", then as "side concubines" and then as "side Fujin". Members of the court are addressed as above.
The appellation of inferior people is also different from that of aristocratic families. If the old squire is addressed as "learned". Dude, don't call old servants by their names. They all call them by their names. For eunuchs, it is called "companion". Call an old maid "mother", such as "grandma" and "grandma". Address young servants as "big sister", eg by being given a surname. The maid in the starching room was originally called "water", but she was not directly called "water mother". The chef in the kitchen is called "the chef's mother", such as "Liu's mother" in A Dream of Red Mansions. For the elder's wet nurse, it is called "old wet nurse". The suckling mother's son is called "Brother Ma" and her daughter is called "Sister Ma". For the mother's wet nurse, it is called "grandma and old man" In the palace, the nanny's husband is called "mother and son" and the old mother is called the old escort room. In this room, she often has real power. They are big butlers. Similar to the generation of families described in Mammy Lai, Lin Zhixiao's family and A Dream of Red Mansions, some cowardly masters were also held hostage by them.
Daily meal
The food in my house is different from the inside out. Refers to the prince brothers and teachers, eating in the study; My wife is eating in the back building of Anfutang. The eunuch "sent" in and the squire took care of it outside. Every day at noon and around 6 pm, it is divided into two groups. No matter inside or outside, every meal is as usual four seven-inch plates, four "medium bowls" and two large bowls of soup. Except soup, including two meats and two vegetables, and two cold dishes, almost all are home-cooked dishes, and there is no delicacies. Shooting cucumber and vegetarian spinach again and again is a dish. Occasionally, there will be one or two dishes in the "middle bowl", such as stewed assorted dices, stewed shredded chicken with beans, stewed three fresh vegetables and so on. It is considered to be an excellent dish. But every meal must have two five-inch plates of cooked food: such as small belly, pickles and two small three-inch plates of pickles. Four tables every morning and evening, the ration is 225 yuan, which is equivalent to more than three yuan in the ocean. Visitors who change seats or add good dishes will be reimbursed monthly. The same is true of dishes from one room to another. We haven't seen guests eating in the customs building for three or five months. Even if the relatives in each room come because of something, they will stay for dinner.
The word "eat cake" is the lingua franca in Wang Fu. Generally speaking, have breakfast. "Eating cakes" here refers to a small-scale convenience around 4 pm. Generally, there are two dried meats, two honey, four cold cuts, a big bowl of crystal sugar lotus seeds, four dishes of cake dishes, such as fried hazelnut sauce, fried Zhu Mu meat, small belly, sauced meat, and yellow wine. The staple food is yellow cake, steamed stuffed bun and sesame seed cake. Drink porridge after meals. This way of eating, the palace is roughly the same, rarely out of line. As for breakfast every morning, some people buy horseshoes, sesame paste, sesame cakes and fried fruits. Divide it into different rooms and never change them. In case there are guests staying for dinner on the first day, take the remaining dishes out of the ice bucket in the morning and eat them with sesame cakes. But I have never added cake dishes, and I have no habit of drinking milk and eating bread. It is said that the King of the Northern Mansion (Spring Palace) does not take tonics and does not allow others to eat them. He thinks that milk and butter are things that will get angry, and eating them is harmful. If it is used for breakfast, it is certainly not allowed. That's what happened. It happened. A small screen hanging on the threshold of my Anfutang is a bodhisattva statue. Don't touch the "Big Five Meat". Beef is one of the "five poultry meats", and the natural situation is fasting. However, cheese and custard are eaten correctly. The northern government doesn't allow milk, but grandma Fujin likes western food best. And equipped with western-style kitchen utensils. My family often goes to Xie Yingfan's restaurant to eat western food. It is unreasonable to eat western food without beef and milk.
My family lives on two meals a day. Throughout the year, it never changes, and it will always be old rice (also called firewood rice, which is old rice) and white rice. Do not eat food steamed with white flour. Eat only noodles on birthdays and dumplings (dumplings) on New Year's Day. Therefore, everyone is looking forward to the New Year holiday to improve their lives. Because of the poor food, some people secretly call it a "sacrificial mat." Grandma in each room has a small kitchen, which cooks good food every day. When you come to Xia Hou for dinner, you are just putting on a show. However, Tai Fujin can't "be alone" and let the kitchen prepare separately. If so, it wouldn't be "cohabitation", so I suffered from Tai Fujin and my children. Girls and boys at home are not allowed to eat at the same table with their elders until they are ten years old. Some eat on the kang table, and some eat in their bedroom. The eunuch gave everyone half a bowl of rice, made some soup and put two pieces of pickles in it. You can only eat it twice at most, even if you are full. As a result, all the children are malnourished. It is said that some palaces are like this.
On the surface, I eat, and I am not extravagant, but this is limited to the customs house. Outside the study, we often add dishes at noon, and prepare four dishes and one soup with the teacher at night, while men have a reception almost every night, which is called "dinner party". At that time, most of the fellow travelers were young princes and some children of Zhumen in the family. Gambling on wine is nothing more than well-cooked restaurants such as Tianhe Fish, Zhimei Building, Xinfeng Building and Minghuchun. At the same time, British and French cuisines like "Beijing", "Six Kingdoms" and "Caiying" are also to their liking. Because the Tianhe fish is located in a complex place, the colorful sleeves are diligently intertwined, the melody is clear, and the beads are unpredictable. It seems that there is an interest in "dancing in the heart of a willow, singing at the bottom of a peach blossom fan" and can people in the game not "get drunk by fighting"? Can this extravagant measure be compared with the solar eclipse at home? This is probably the so-called "difference between inside and outside"!
Not only that, there are still many imperfections in this daily food at home. For example, the cookie house makes 24 bowls of cheese as usual every day, and there are two kinds of exquisite foods made of milk, such as milk rolls, milk cookies, dry water and so on. Every afternoon, whether in winter or summer, eunuchs distribute them to all rooms. Eat or not, do the right thing.
Good morning, Ann.
My family used to live in Dongdan Foreign Affairs Street, formerly known as Shidaren Hutong, which is a small street facing south, not too far from Lumicang. Lumicang was later converted into an army clothing factory, where there was a tall chimney and the whistle sounded twice every morning. At that time, Beijingers were not very civilized, and the whistle was called "pulling the nose", so it was said that "the nose was all over the head" and "the nose was twice". Whenever the first whistle sounded, the bearded "armored man" was taken into the customs by the eunuch to clean the courtyard, and Little Sura went to the window of the hall. After the whistle sounded twice, the wives dressed themselves in front of the mirror. Dressing is not in front of the dresser, but sitting cross-legged on the front kang, facing the old mirror, being served by the maid to wash her face first and then comb her hair. Cosmetics are a combination of Chinese and western, and there are French famous brands and high-quality products in the middle of the month. Only in Taifujin, there are only two sisters' cream and glycerin. When combing her hair, the maid sent a small bowl of crystal sugar lotus seed soup or boiled pear soup, sometimes drinking two spoonfuls, and sometimes waving it away. At eight o'clock, the nurse led the children to mourn. Generally, girls are in the front and boys are in the back. Girls and boys alike, please kneel down in turn before the age of ten. Just call them according to their seniority when you pay a New Year call. Fujin and grandma have finished washing and dressing, put on their clothes and go to the temple to say good morning to Taifujin. If an old woman wants to go out in the afternoon, she will take this opportunity to ask Taifujin for leave. There's nothing wrong with asking for leave, but just say it. There was nothing to do until the teacher said, "Take a break!" Then he should "talk" in a low voice, step back and turn away. Good morning, please. Only members of the palace, no slaves.
The living habits of different palaces are also different. In some princes' homes, when the younger generation greets their elders, they should say "greetings" or "good luck". There is no such habit in my family, except eunuchs. Eunuchs say "good luck" when they see their masters, which is their oral language. Not only that, but also call "please" when you pay a New Year call! What's interesting is that if someone's birthday is crowded with guests, a faltering old eunuch comes in with a hoarse voice from the outside and laughs in a low voice: "How lucky Gege and Grandma are? Greetings to the masters! " As he spoke, he lifted the corner of the table around him with his hand and knelt down. This action is very difficult. His "safety" means that all the "please" have arrived. Nobody is picky. People often ask, "My companion, are you still tough?" He whispered, and then replied, "Thank you, masters!" " This interesting piece of life can only be seen in the prince's house.
"Greetings" and "greetings" are synonyms. For example, "Please take care" and "Wait for Taiwan Province" written at the end of the old letter all mean greetings. Manchu customs turn "greeting" into action, so there are different forms of "cheating" and "squatting" to distinguish between men and women. People in the court and the prince's family should kneel down, and so should servants. This is divided into one-legged safety (fighting thousands of people) and two-legged safety (kneeling safety). In the palace, in addition to "cheating" as a meeting etiquette between servants on weekdays, people often greet each other. Between members of Wang Fu, that is, between peers, the younger brother should kneel down when he sees his younger brother. Kneeling is never right. So there was a ceremony of "receiving insurance".
Few people understand the word "Jiean" now. It is a kind of etiquette action that grows from young to young, from top to bottom. The younger generation greets the elder, and the elder smiles and nods to express happiness, but this gesture cannot be applied to the younger generation. When a slave greets his master, the master will extend his right hand to meet him. When he meets an old slave, he will extend his hand like an object. Both actions mean accepting gifts, and the latter also means asking for help. Young masters should help old servants, so should brothers. If you go to someone's house and greet an old maid, and you can't bend over to help, you can hold a fist instead. These are all called "receiving insurance".
From "good morning" to eunuchs and "greetings", it is more complicated, but if you want to make it clear, you have to.
wedding
Two years ago, a friend had a chat. Upstairs in his hotel, some people set up several tables of banquets, saying it was a wedding. A friend sitting here asked me: "I heard that when the palace held a happy event, hundreds of tables were set up, including the accompanying servants, and all of them could eat delicacies." The scene is amazing. What is the real situation? " At that time, I thought this question was ridiculous, even superficial, but it belonged to the general view of the people. If I say that the situation is similar, it is against my will. If I say anything else, it may cause people to misunderstand and accuse me of defending the nobility, but I still can't help but reply. Therefore, Wang Fu's wedding can be summed up in four words, namely "two noes" and "two noes". What is "two noes"? It is powerful and silent, complex and orderly; "Two noes" are disobedience to customs and unkindness to human feelings. Why do I say that? This is also in life practice. The following is the narrative of these two "and" and "no.
Marriage is a major event in life. It's not as simple as most people think. At this time, of course, we must abide by the "parents' orders, the words of the matchmaker", and more importantly, we must pay attention to "the right door." "In the early Qing Dynasty, Wang Fu could only intermarry with Mongolian Borzite (Mongolian aristocrats) and Manchu aristocratic families, such as Guarga, Niukelu, Wula, Shumulu, Fu Cha and Tong Jiashi. It was not until the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China that they married into the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Under the strict premise of "being suitable for each other", marriage is also very unusual. To form a husband and wife, six ancient ceremonies are needed (there are six kinds of weddings in ancient China: receiving, gathering, asking names, Naji, inviting parties, and welcoming relatives). This ancient ceremony developed into the Ming Dynasty. Although the names of the Six Rites have changed, there is no difference in their ceremonies, forming a set of etiquette system, which has been inherited in the Qing Dynasty and has not changed much.
The first step of a wedding in the Qing Dynasty is called "proposing marriage", that is, asking names in ancient ceremonies. Among them, the matchmaker plays a decisive role. Judging from the actual situation, this matchmaker is mostly a domestic servant such as "dowry", because they know the background of the noble family, first get the consent of the two elders, and get married according to birthdates, a man and a woman. Sixty or seventy years ago, aristocratic families in Beijing (including Wang Fu) usually got married in a "Sanyuanzi Pavilion" on the north side of Chaoyangmennei Road, such as "committing a crime", so this marriage was not mentioned. For example, if we combine "marriage", "marriage" and even "marriage", we will go to the next step-"look at each other". If you like, please ask the famous so-and-so Fujin or Mrs. Yipin to be the official matchmaker, and the actual matchmaker will retire behind the scenes.
The matchmaker's first job is to send the "Dragon and Phoenix Post" (a large-scale passbook made by seiko, with the cover pattern of "Dragon and Phoenix in auspicious gold, in which only the date and year of birth of men and women are written, such as" year of dry jujube "and" year of Kun jujube ") and Ruyi, Chai and Sichuan to the woman's home, which is called" small fruit post "(that is, the" small fruit post "from now on) for at least half. The scale of expansion is second only to marriage. Letting go is an engagement gift. When the ancients got married, they used geese and coins as dowry, which was called "wild goose coins". Tang Shiyun: "Wild geese are thin and affectionate." Hanshu said: "A rude person is unconscious because the matchmaker can't arrange it." (Quoted from Scarlett Biography) The bride price in Qing Dynasty ranged from twenty to thirty or forty. The so-called "lifting" is to tie the gifts to a rectangular painted table (formerly known as "railing table") and hang them red and green. The first example is a handle with a purple purlin inlaid with white jade, and the second example is "General Book" and "Gift List" (which contains auspicious times and things to avoid). The following items are women's beaded flowers, the first string of beads, four seasons jewelry (mostly inlaid with jade ...), robes, gold and silver brooms (that is, one or two small ingots), cotton, and goose cages (four geese, one goose in a cage, dyed red). In addition, there are four hi-word steamed buns (one weighs a catty, and the word "hi" is printed on the red background), four sheep, and the wool is dyed red.
After the gift was decorated, four Wang Fu officials rode horses as scheduled to deliver the gift to the woman's home. The man's matchmaker came with him and asked her to accept the color and congratulate each other as a gift.
In two or three months, we will get married in due course. On the eve of marriage, you should "pay the dowry". The dowry is prepared according to the man's new house. Generally speaking, Wang Fu's wedding was held in an independent courtyard. Shortly after the ceremony, the whole courtyard was completely renewed, with indoor painting and outdoor seaweed painting. The dowry prepared by the woman is not less than 120 liter, the whole hall furniture made of rosewood and mahogany mother-of-pearl, and antique furnishings, such as Ruyi, jars, clocks and bonsai. , including the items that the man "enlarged" and brought to the woman, are led by the brand of "Jiqing Youyu" and sent to the new house on the first day of engagement, arranged according to the position of various furniture. At this time, it is common for the palace to hold a wedding without hesitation. Here are some situations of "unkindness" and "two things".
The gate of the palace is closed all the year round, and people come in and out through the corner gate. However, as soon as the palace master gets married, the palace door must be wide open. Only those who know the ceremony in the palace can see that there is a happy event in the palace. However, tourist vehicles still enter and exit the corner gate. In addition to the festive signs that the government doors are wide open, there are also government doors that need to be repainted after the big ceremony. Beyond that, there are no more signs of a great wedding.
At Wang Fu's wedding, the word "hi" was not pasted on the glass door and window. However, the gates of every courtyard that the sedan chair passes through must be decorated with lanterns. In the courtyard where the new house is located, there is a Yang Jiaodeng with the word "Xi" hanging outside, which is the same shape as that used for the New Year. Each room has four palace lanterns with the word "Xi" written on them. Although there is no word "Xi" on the doors and windows of the new house, it is also beaming.
The daytime on the wedding day is just to prepare for the wedding at night. Guests usually come to congratulate after dinner. There is neither a rich banquet nor famous wine, only a cup of fragrant tea, which is called "green tea". There are also people who are obviously different from ordinary people and don't put up tents. The male guest took a seat in the pavilion, and the female guest went all the way to the yard to rest and said some congratulations. They don't care if there is a banquet, but the guests' entourage can't drink and eat vegetables. If they can't get money for eating and drinking, they are annoyed and say "unkind".
When the guests arrived, everything in the house was ready. About the beginning of the sea, an old eunuch came to the hall to answer, saying that it was auspicious and he could have the sedan chair sent out, and the owner agreed. At this time, as early as in relatives or kin, a boy under the age of 10 was selected and knocked on the kang of the bridal chamber three times, which was called the "bell-ringing room". As soon as the gong rang, the order to "send a sedan chair" quickly reached the government gate, and people who had already gathered there to greet the bride set off immediately. Although there is drum music, they don't play it in the street. This is called "setting music without playing". I only heard the sound of the first gong, and even knocked three times, I saw 120 pairs of lanterns with the word "West" (that is, corner lights) held high, like two fire dragons, moving slowly and solemnly. Because there is no noise, there is a saying of "strong and silent". Behind the lantern, there are four Wang Fu officials riding horses, holding Tibetan incense, and four pedestrians, holding stoves and burning sandalwood. Later, they were carried on a red sedan chair by eight people, and the sedan chair was carried by four people. In the sedan chair, the wife (that is, the official matchmaker of the man) was taken. My wife wears different clothes than usual. I want to put a scarlet robe cover on my robe and a red cymbal cover on my cymbal, much like a red hood. A woman's wife wears the same clothes as a man. In addition to his wife, the woman has four male guests, each of whom takes a carriage and follows the sedan chair, which is called "giving away". These four grades are roughly the same, and they are nothing more than Gushan, Beizi, Zhenguogong, Fuguogong and Yipin Daguan.
The man's wedding horse and sedan chair were accompanied by the wedding official to the woman's door. Accompanied by Wang Fu officials, the groom arrived on horseback, and first entered the wedding hall of the woman, without saying a word or taking a seat, only kowtowing three times. After the ceremony, he immediately returned to the palace. When the groom left, the marriage proposal officer ordered everyone to carry the wedding car into the wedding hall to propose marriage.
Wang Fu, Aristocratic Family and Interior Office were collectively called "Everyone" in Qing Dynasty. Everyone reads books, and their living customs are similar. However, wedding and funeral gifts are different. For example, at weddings, there are no four customs in the palace: ① In-laws accompany their brothers and don't hold the sedan chair; ② There was no brazier before the sedan chair entered the bridal chamber; ③ Don't pour the red carpet; (4) The bride does not cross the saddle when she leaves the car door. But there are several customs like "everyone", that is, the groom sends three arrows to Xi's sedan chair, and the bride takes the Aquarius out of the sedan chair to meet XiShen and worship the heavens and the earth together.
When the bride arrived at the bridal chamber, there were already four middle-aged women waiting there. These four kinds of people are collectively referred to as "dependent people" (also known as "all-happiness people", that is, people with parents-in-law, children and husbands alive). Are invited by their close relatives or people. Their task is to uncover the veil first, then pick up the vase, dress and change clothes for the bride, then arrange for the bride and groom to sit down on the quilt-covered kang, and then four "Mrs. Sama" recite auspicious words in Manchu. At this time, a man was holding a mahogany basin filled with cooked and tasteless mutton and presented it to the bride and groom for sharing, which was called "Ashe Boulami". (Manchu) Followed by "relying on people", the bride and groom serve a plate of miniature jiaozi with each bite, which is called "eating children's cakes". While eating, "it depends on the person" and then asked, "Are you raw?" The average groom replies, "Healthy!" At this point, "Yi Ren" and other people withdrew from the bridal chamber one by one, leaving only the bride to sit in the tent until dawn, which is called "sitting in the tent". The groom is not allowed here, but he must rest in a quiet room. Some people take this opportunity to go to the pavilion to drink and laugh with diners.
After dawn, the bride and groom, accompanied by eunuchs and ladies-in-waiting, go to the ancestral temple to salute, which is called "Chaomiao". After the ceremony in front of the temple, he went back to the upper room and paid a "double ceremony" to his parents-in-law and the elders in each room (the male left and the female right knelt down at the same time, and the second worshipped and the sixth worshipped), as described in the Tang poem "Worship my uncle and aunt in front of the court" (Zhu Qingyu's poem). When you salute your elders, you greet your peers. This is called "grading". After that, the ruler (material) prepared by the bride is given to elders, in-laws, peers and others, which is called "opening ceremony". Kowtow when saluting, ask when unpacking, kowtow all morning! Please don't stop! At the end of the wedding, the bride and groom were dizzy and exhausted.
On the fourth day after marriage, the bride takes a bus, the groom rides a horse, and leads the servant to visit his parents at the woman's house, which is called "returning to the door". At this point, the colorful wedding in Wang Fu finally ended in "silence" and "order".
